Fourth Annual Marine Mammal Day at AT&T Park

A fun-filled day for baseball fans benefiting The Marine Mammal Center on Saturday, April 29th at AT&T Park. Game day activities will include interactive information booths, chances to win raffle prizes and an exciting opportunity to sign up for a junior membership to The Center.

Sausalito, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2006 -- The Marine Mammal Center is proud to announce the fourth annual Marine Mammal Day at AT&T Park. On Saturday, April 29, Lou Seal, The San Francisco Giants’ mascot, will cheer on his favorite team, as well as his favorite charity – The Marine Mammal Center. Throughout the year, Lou Seal helps The Center reach out to kids and adults, teaching them about marine mammals and their ocean habitats. This exciting event has been made possible by the ongoing support of the Giants and Chevron for The Center’s every day work in rescue and rehabilitation, education, and research. This year’s activities include interactive information booths for game day spectators to learn more about marine mammals and the important work of The Center. Baseball fans will also have the opportunity to win fantastic raffle prizes, donated by the Giants and Chevron, the proceeds of which will help support The Center’s work into the future.

“On this special day, we speak to thousands of people about the importance of marine mammals and preservation of their ocean home,” said B. J. Griffin, Executive Director of The Marine Mammal Center. “We thank the Giants and Chevron for giving us this opportunity for the past four years. Their support helps each seal, sea lion, otter, and dolphin treated at The Center, plus those in the wild population.”

To add to the day’s excitement, younger baseball fans can take advantage of a very special deal. Kids can become junior members to The Center for only a $1 donation. The junior member program, called Pals, is packed with special benefits such as a quarterly newsletter, a password protected website, and even a cute poster of a former marine mammal patient. Junior memberships are a wonderful way for kids to learn more about the natural history of seals, sea lions and dolphins as well as how to become stewards of ocean health. Those who sign up for a membership on Marine Mammal Day will also receive a special Build-A-Bear Workshop™ gift card good for a discount at the new Lou Seal store located in the ballpark. There, they can build their own Lou Seal plush toy.

Headquartered in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Sausalito, California, The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit hospital dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals, and to the research of their health and diseases. Volunteers and staff have treated more than 11,000 California sea lions, elephant seals, porpoises, and other marine mammals, along 600-miles of coastline stretching from Mendocino County to San Luis Obispo County. Staff and volunteers uniquely combine rehabilitation with scientific discovery and education programs to advance the understanding of marine mammal health, ocean health and conservation.
