Fountainhead Named NSA & DHS Center of Excellence for Cybersecurity Program

Fountainhead College of Technology has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

KNOXVILLE, TN (PRWEB) April 14, 2006 -- This prestigious designation recognizes Fountainhead’s Network Security & Forensics bachelor’s (BASNSF) degree program as one of the best in the nation. The BASNSF is the only cybersecurity bachelor’s degree offered by a CAEIAE in Tennessee.

From the NSA website: “The goal of the NSA/DHS sponsored program is to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education in information assurance (IA), and producing a growing number of professionals with IA expertise in various disciplines. CAEIAE Institutions serve as regional centers of IA expertise and provide programs aimed at retooling and retaining current federal and state information technology personnel.”

In addition to rigorous examination of the curriculum, Fountainhead was also evaluated on student resources and equipment, cybersecurity outreach efforts, faculty expertise and information security training standards.

Fountainhead is the only nationally accredited college in the nation and one of only a handful of colleges across the United States to obtain this elite status. CAEIAE peers include Stanford, West Point and Purdue University.

Universities and colleges designated as CAEIAE’s are eligible to apply for scholarships and grants through both the Federal and Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship Programs.

From the NSA/DHS Partnership press release: "America is already reaping benefits from the current Centers. Graduates steeped in information assurance education are now entering the federal and greater American workforce. Those graduates, and graduates to come, are forming the cornerstone for America, taking cyber security to the very edges of the National Information Infrastructure and the Global Information Grid," said Daniel G. Wolf, Director, Information Assurance Directorate, National Security Agency.”

Official letters of notification will be sent to Fountainhead President Richard Rackley, Tennessee Governer Phil Bresden, Members of Congress, and appropriate Congressional Committees. A press release is also in coordination and should be posted on the NSA web site, http://www.nsa.gov/ia/academia/acade00001.cfm, within a few weeks. A ceremony recognizing Fountainhead's achievement will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, 6 June 2006 during the annual conference of the Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education. The conference will be held at the University of Maryland University College Inn and Conference Center, Adelphi, MD. The award ceremony will be attended by college President Richard Rackley, Vice President Casey Rackley, Director of Education Marty Rogers, Network Security & Forensics Instructor Gerald Clevenger and IA Program Coordinator Tammy Alexander.
