Sydney Executive Loses 26kg (60lbs) in 90 Days with Yoga

Sydney IT Executive, Peter Giudes, 43 takes on Bikram Yoga and loses 60lbs in 90 days. Result: a new lease on life and a new wardrobe.

Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) April 14, 2006 -- At 43 years old, 115 kilos, 20 years working in an office environment and always buying clothes one size bigger than the time before, Peter Giudes decided to do something about it.

“I started walking in the mornings, then jogging. I was never much of a runner, so this was a real struggle for me. It’s also a pretty lonely activity.”

“A good friend recommended Bikram Yoga at Lane Cove. For just $15 for 10 days unlimited yoga, I thought what have I got to lose?”

“I’d never been inside a gym in my life, so I was sceptical about organised exercise and how much I would enjoy it. But on the first day I realised how different Bikram Yoga was from what I expected. The poses (or asanas) are basic in yoga terms, but they create a challenge for beginners through to advanced practitioners and the room is heated to 39 degrees (C). This has three results, the risk of injury to the body is reduced by being warm, the heart and lungs get a great workout, and the increased sweat adds motivation to the exercise. You can feel it doing you good. I now call it yoga on steroids.”

“Within a couple of weeks I could feel the difference. My aerobic fitness improved greatly, making my morning jogs faster and easier, my overall flexibility was enhanced, getting rid of those little aches and pains, and I became much more aware of my posture.”

“Within a month I also started to notice the weight loss. Other people also started noticing: not just the weight-loss, but the general look of wellbeing.”

“One of the best bits is I’ve hardly changed my diet. I still eat large meals together with beer and wine for dinner. The only real change is I now eat a salad for lunch on the days when I do Bikram in the afternoon.”

“The social aspects of Bikram are also great. The members are friendly and there is always lots of social catching up before and after sessions. The instructors are not just experts in their craft, they must complete an intensive training session in the US before taking a class, and they inject challenges, humour and motivation into every class.”

“The instructors also helped me set meaningful objectives. One personal objective was to return to the weight I was when I got married (over 15 years ago) – 92 Kgs. I was surprised when I reached 88Kgs.”

“So what’s the downside? Well I just had to buy all new clothes. Even my shoes feel big on me!”
