A new mobile portal launched today by UK company mixipix, brings a unique service – animated cartoon messaging – to mobile handsets for the very first time.
mixipix has launched a dedicated mobile front-end to its sophisticated content delivery system, allowing users to create and send animated cartoon messages directly from their mobile phones.
The launch of the dedicated WAP portal marks a significant step forward for the company in bringing its content to the mainstream mobile user. mixipix has allowed users to create and send cartoon massages via its own and a number of partners websites over the past 18 months.
Lesley Keen the Chief Executive of mixipix, says, “The fact that users will now be able to create and send cartoon messages directly from their handset is a major milestone for the company. We have had a great deal of success with our service over the past 18 months when users were creating and sending messages from our website or those of our partners. However, as the mobile market grows, direct access is becoming a vital part of every company’s strategy.”
The mixipix service is unique in the mobile world. Users choose from a wide range of different animations, attaching their own text to create the final message. The service renders the cartoon content dynamically on demand, ensuring the recipient receives the animation at the optimum size and resolution for their handset. Messages are delivered via wap-push, bypassing MMS technology which has yet to achieve widespread consumer acceptance.
Consumers have responded very favourably to the mixipix cartoon messaging service since it was first launched in 2004. With an average ten percent conversion rate from visitor to sales and a return rate of over 25%, web-to-phone services continue to build in popularity. Cartoon messaging offers a far more personal and emotionally expressive alternative to the standard text message or the static picture message.
While there are a number of services which allow users to download animated files and pass them onto contacts, the mixipix service is the only system in the world which allows people to send cartoon messages directly to their friends and family. This fact, combined with the new mobile access point, makes it faster, simpler and more convenient to send cartoon messages through mixipix.
mixipix will be making their new wap portal available to third parties as a 'white label' solution, allowing them to brand the portal and offer cartoon messages direct from mobile as part of their own service.
“The fact that mixipix animations can be saved and used as wallpaper, screensavers or caller ID pictures is a huge advantage from the consumer point of view,” says Keen. “It provides far more long term value and gives the recipient content which they can use to customise their handset and show off to friends and family. While a great many of the messages sent through our system are for events and occasions normally associated with greetings cards, we're finding that a large percentage of our audience are using cartoon messages to express their emotions. Now our users can create and send messages direct from their mobile phones making this a far more spontaneous experience. The new WAP portal has been designed to streamline and simplify the whole process as far as possible to ensure that sending cartoon messages becomes as much a part of a user's mobile life as texting or downloading a ringtone.”
The new mixipix mobile portal can be found at: mixipix.net/wap or by texting 'go mixipix' to 83055.
As an introductory offer, cartoon messages cost £0.75 each to send.
mixipix will be updating their mobile portal with new content on a regular basis, in response to content usage. A more comprehensive collection of animations, plus mixipix's animation creation studio, which allows users to create their own animations, can be found on the company's consumer website: http://www.mixipix.net
Notes To Editors:
mixipix was founded in 2002 by Lesley Keen, a veteran of the new media, animation and interactive industries.
The company has created a unique technology system which allows animated cartoons to be created and sent to any colour, wap-enabled mobile phone on most major networks around the world. mixipix's system renders each message individually to ensure it is tailor made for each phone it is sent to. This allows users to modify existing pre-made cartoons or create their own unique animations. Once the animation has been created, users can write a text to create a personalised cartoon message, which can then be sent directly to a mobile phone. Unlike a text message (SMS), mixipix cartoons can be saved and used as wallpapers, screensavers, ring alerts etc. to personalise the user's phone.
mixipix operates across the consumer and trade markets. In addition to the consumer facing messaging service, the company works with marketing and creative industries to offer a turnkey solution to companies wishing to send animated messages to mobile users worldwide.
