WBENC’s national standard of certification implemented by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council-Southeast Division is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.

When Tammy Solt was a U.S. Marine, she wore camouflage because it was the uniform of the day. Most recently, the wife, mother, and entrepreneur noticed colored camouflage was becoming popular among the general public. Mixing her love of college sports with the true “get it done” spirit of a Marine, she founded a company catering to the camo trend – an idea she knew she could be passionate about.

Late last year, Solt started Team Camo Gear (http://www.teamcamogear.com), a company that specializes in team colored camouflage in a variety of styles. Team Camo Gear currently offers six colors that match a variety of sports teams’ colors including red, blue, purple, gray, orange and even pink!

The company is looking for manufacturers to help expand the company’s range of colors and to add other features to the line which currently includes t-shirts, pants, head wraps, jungle hats, skirts, and shorts for both men and women.

“The ultimate goal is to offer camouflage in colors that match any high school, college or professional sports team. The gear is both rugged and stylish. Wear it on game day, hiking, paint-balling, rollerblading, or just for fun” Solt said. Other growth opportunities include doing embroidery with team names or mascots for high schools, marching bands, and booster clubs.

The company is also giving back to the community. For every pink camouflage t-shirt purchased, Team Camo Gear will donate $1.00 to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. One hundred percent of your donation goes to breast cancer research. What a better way to get people talking about important health issues than through a fun and unique product that screams “Pink” the icon of breast cancer awareness.

One of our most recent pink camouflage customers, the US Angels, a charitable group of women motorcycle enthusiasts in the Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Southern Maryland area, supports and raises awareness of the soldiers and troops returning from war in Iraq. While these soldiers recover at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the US Angels try to make life easier for the soldier’s families staying in the Fisher House. The US Angels donate all proceeds from their appearances, calendars, and events to this worthy cause.
