Most people would rather play with beach balls instead of looking like one in a swimsuit. SheKnows Diet & Fitness magazine has dozens of ways help get rid of that beach ball body and slim down for summer.
The magazine explores the world of dieting and fitness. “We offer at least 20 healthy recipes in every issue,” says managing editor Jen Wolfe. “For those who need a more specific diet plan to follow, Diet Spotlight reviews popular diets (recent articles focused on The South Beach Diet and The Zone Diet) in each issue. And what about eating out? The Dining Detective is hard at work finding terrific places across the country to eat healthy and not blow a diet.”
Here’s a tasty low-calorie, low-fat treat from freelance writer Joan Russell to help you slim down for summer:
Apple Gorgonzola Pecan Salad
1 head red leaf lettuce, shredded into bite-size pieces
1 Granny Smith apple cored, seeds removed, cut into thin slices
1 MacIntosh or Braeburn apple cored, seeds removed, cut into thin slices
1 Golden Delicious apple cored, seeds removed, cut into thin slices
1/2 cup crumbled Gorgonzola cheese
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup chopped green scallions
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or apple juice
1 clove garlic, crushed through press
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
1. Wash and cut lettuce; discard core. Cut into bite-size pieces and put in medium bowl.
2. Wash core and cut apples into thin slices and mix with lettuce.
3. Add crumbled Gorgonzola cheese, chopped pecans and green scallions to lettuce and apple mixture. Toss ingredients to distribute evenly. Cover and chill in refrigerator an hour or more.
4. Mix oil and apple cider vinegar in small jar or measuring cup with crushed garlic, Dijon mustard, salt and pepper to taste. Whisk or stir well.
5. Serve salad on individual plates or in bowl and pour dressing over each portion individually.
6. Do not mix with entire salad. It will keep longer this way.

SheKnows Diet & Fitness isn’t just about dieting. To help we trim and tone, the magazine also focuses on one nationally recognized gym per issue in our Gym Spotlight (recent articles focus on Bally’s and Curves). Plus learn more about yoga, pilates, and targeted exercises for trouble spots like abs and derriere, in each issue.
“We know that diet and exercise aren’t the only things that make women feel good about themselves,” says managing editor Jen Wolfe. “So we offer a wide range of stories on beauty and fashion in every issue as well -- everything from makeup and hair tips, to what’s hot in summer swimsuits and fashions. We also explore some of the more unusual health and beauty avenues, like colonics and botox.”
The second issue of SheKnows Diet & Fitness is on newsstands nationwide. It is also available for subscription (1 year, 6 issues $17.99 or 2 years, 12 issues $27.99) by calling 1-888-881-5861, or visit http://www.SheKnows.com for more information.
What is SheKnows? It’s an information resource for women.
Of the 293 million people in the U.S., over half are women. We know women are making more and more of the decisions for their households and families -- not just about buying food, clothing, insurance and automobiles, but also daily living issues like having children, parenting, health and wellness and so much more.
We also know that women value relationships -- with family and friends as well as with the companies they do business with -- above all other things, and that these tend to be primary sources of information for them.
So whether women need information on child-raising, pregnancy, cooking smart, finances or fitness, SheKnows wants to be there to help -- to develop a relationship with them as a one-stop place to find the information they need!
Sheknows provides the following resources on the Internet.
Our network also extends to two colorful and dynamic magazines -- SheKnows LowCarb and SheKnows Diet & Fitness. These are available in bookstores, newsstands, grocers and drugstores across America. Our magazines provide healthy recipes, information on food trends, fitness and beauty -- much of what women need to eat smart and stay healthy.
