Lawn & Garden Centers Attract Customers and Boost Sales with the Remarkably Relaxing Hanging Furniture from Outback Chair Company

Unique Line of Hanging Chairs and Hammocks is a Winner for Independent Retailers

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 18, 2006 -- When the National Hardware Show® opens in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 9, 2006, owners, managers and buyers for nursery centers and lawn and garden retailers will head over to Lawn & Garden World®, the area of the show devoted to high-margin lawn and garden and outdoor living products and accessories. Outback Chair Company, Inc. (booth #52105) should be at the top of their list of manufacturers to visit. Why? Outback’s collection of hanging chairs, hammocks and accessories has proven to be a winner for lawn and garden centers, as well as for hardware stores, that want to offer customers unique furniture products that enhance casual living.

Since 1975, Frady’s Lawn & Garden Center (www.fradyslawn.com) has been the garden center of choice for discriminating homeowners in the Indianapolis, Ind. area. According to Loretta Canter, Frady’s vice president and general manager, the variety of merchandise it offers has long been a hallmark of Frady’s. “When consumers get frustrated with the limited selection at the Big Box home improvement centers, their sales people send them on over to us,” said Canter. “Variety sells. So we’re always looking for new, high-quality products for our customers.”

Frady’s sells wood and metal outdoor furniture, including bistro sets, and decided to add hanging chairs, hammocks and accessories from Outback Chair in 2003. “We have them out on our porch area on Outback’s merchandising display,” said Canter. “We sell a variety of hammocks and hanging chairs from Outback, and the Charleston Cushion Chair has been an especially good selling-item for us.”

Ithaca Agway (www.ithacaagway.com), located in the center of town, has been a fixture in Ithaca N.Y. since 1932. Andy Boerman has owned and operated the store for six years. “We’re very big into lawn and garden, and we sell many different types of outdoor furniture (including benches and patio sets in wood, all-weather wicker and iron),” he said. “We were impressed with the value of Outback’s products – good quality at a good price – and added their Air Chairs, Loungers and Poly Cord Hammocks to complement our furniture offerings in 2003.”

“Outback’s products have been very successful for us,” he said. “They provide profitable margins, and our customers buy them as holiday gifts, so we don’t discount them at the end of the summer.”

Boerman added the he enjoys doing business with Outback Chair Company. “Whether it’s help with advertising or assisting us with a special product promotion, Outback Chair is always responsive and helpful.”

Located on five acres in the prestigious and growing West Hills area of Portland, Ore., Cornell Farm (www.cornellfarms.com) is a family-owned and operated retail nursery. Since opening in 1987, container gardening has been a specialty, reflected in Cornell Farm’s designer-potted gardens-to-go and custom potting service. In January 2006, Today’s Garden Center selected Cornell Farm as one of the 100 “Revolutionary Garden Centers” in the U.S. “It’s a real honor to be named as one of the 100 most innovative garden centers, especially since there are some 17,000 of them across the country,” said Debbie Barnhart, manager, Cornell Farm. “We were recognized for our excellence in cross-merchandising with our display vignettes.”

According to Barnhart, Cornell Farms offers a limited amount of outdoor furniture, primarily bistro sets. They now sell the Outback Recliner, Basket Weave Lounger, Poly Cord Rope Chair and Poly Cord Hammock. Why did Cornell Farm decide to add Outback Chair’s hanging furniture for the 2006 season? “We had never seen any furniture products quite like Outback Chair’s,” said Barnhart. “It’s high-quality and well-made, and that’s what our customer base wants.”

In sum, hanging furniture from Outback Chair is a winning category for lawn and garden retailers. Outback offers them distinctive, first-rate and high-margin products and supports the success of family-owned retailers. “Our hanging furniture has proven to be an excellent product line for lawn and garden centers,” said Jack Bass, founder and president, Outback Chair Company, Inc. “We hope that they’ll visit with us at the National Hardware Show’s Lawn & Garden World.”
