For many years the spectre of the 18-30’s style holiday phenomenon coloured people’s perspective of Tenerife’s south coast. Boozy young Brits enjoying pub crawls and bawdy shenanigans put the higher end of the tourist market off visiting the sun drenched coastline of Tenerife’s southern municipalities. But over the last few years a massive rebranding exercise and hundreds of millions of development Euros have transformed this former hotspot of sun sex and sangria into an upmarket playground for the better heeled traveller.
Stretching from Torviscas along the coast to La Caleta, Costa Adeje offers a wealth of five star hotels, gourmet restaurants, world class golf courses and miles of groomed white sand.
A source at Adeje’s town hall commented on the area’s transformation: “the last few years has seen the local authority and independent businesses cooperate financially in a way that has transformed this once barren part of the island. The new infrastructure has provided good, well lit roads and general utilities which have allowed hotel chains and entrepreneurs to provide quality accommodation and amenities to the higher end of the tourism market. We are committed to a continued investment in the area which we feel will benefit the local community in the form of jobs and a higher standard of living”.
It is not just the magnificent hotels and quality restaurants that are attracting holiday makers either. The superb beaches which include Playa Fañabe, Playa del Duque and the stunning Cherengito have become popular destinations for both locals and tourists alike. Fantastic facilities and miles of golden sand are the perfect combination for a family day on the beach away from the hustle and bustle of the typical holiday resorts.
