Hedge Funds Extend Gains Through Fifth Month: Cogent Dynamic Averages Show Hedge Funds Up 1.9% in March 2006

With nearly 3000 alternative investments reporting results for the month of March 2006, the average hedge fund has gained a strong 1.897% for the month. Privately placed securities investment strategies (PIPEs, private equity and other investments through unregistered transactions) posted the greatest advances for the month (6.544% for Regulation D strategies and 5.350% for Private Equity strategies) but almost all alternative investment strategies posted gains. Only three strategies - Currency Trading, Equity Income and Fixed Income strategies - declined in March. The average hedge fund is up 5.282% for the year to date.
