LuminOre Industrial & Marine Coatings Inc. joins the Copper Development Association, an information and service-based organization dedicated to the promotion and development of copper and its alloys in North America markets.

LuminOre Industrial & Marine Coatings Inc. proudly announces that it has become an Associate Member of the Copper Development Association, an information and service-based organization dedicated to the promotion and development of copper and its alloys in North America markets.

“We’re very proud to support the Copper Development Association,” says Terry Gould, president of LuminOre Industrial & Marine Coatings Inc., an official licensee of the patented LuminOre® process. “No anti-foulant in maritime history as ever been more successful than copper metal, and we strongly support the industry-wide education of the unique ‘foul release’ benefits of copper applications, such as LuminOre.”

Gould explains that, unlike the days of old when ships’ hulls were clad with copper sheeting using nails as fasteners, LuminOre® Marine Copper can be directly applied as a retro-fit or during the molding process when building boats. LuminOre Marine Copper is not an ablative cuprous oxide paint, but is instead a non-sloughing hard coat of actual copper that creates an extremely slick surface. In fact, recent independent tests have shown that no marine organisms have adhered to the LuminOre-coated test plates after constant submersion in India’s Tuticorin Bay, one of the world’s most foulant waterways.

The Copper Development Association Inc. provides information, education and technical resources related to the copper, brass and bronze metals. Its primary mission is to protect and to expand the market uses and applications of copper and copper alloy products through technical research and development and market promotion in the United States. Membership in CDA is open to copper producers worldwide and to brass mill, wire mill and foundry fabricators of copper and copper alloys with production facilities in the United States.

“A unique, foul-release coating, LuminOre Copper offers very low toxicity to the environment and to non-target organisms, and requires very little, if any, maintenance,” says Gould. “With the cold-sprayable process, we can apply LuminOre Copper to any substrate, in virtually any configuration or design. The end result is a protective copper metal surface that has proven to be effective for greater than five years in an aggressive fresh water environment, and effective for greater than eight years in an aggressive fouling salt water environment.”

LuminOre® Marine Copper is available for marine applications in most venues around the world. EPA approval for United States distribution is pending.
