Portland-based artist Michael Shapiro, a critically acclaimed indie artist recently profiled by NBC’s EXTRA as an emerging new artist to watch, will support multi-platinum selling rock quartet Live on tour, kicking off their sold out May 7 date in Atlanta. Shapiro, whose soulful performance and emotionally complex lyrics have ignited an industry buzz, has been on a roll. Fresh off an exhilarating stint on the Spaceland/Heidi’s Night of Beauty SXSW party alongside buzz bands The 88, Los Abandoned and Tapes `n Tapes, he quickly sold out Portland’s White Eagle Saloon; scored an impressive song placement on the Discovery Channel; landed the coveted Live support slot, and will release his solo debut entitled Everything The EP on May 9. Shapiro will also perform the National Anthem at the Dodgers vs. NY Mets game on June 7 and will be featured in Men’s Fitness magazine this summer, documenting his newfound health regimen.
Last year Shapiro enjoyed Top 10, Hot AC chart success on FMBQ with his catchy single “Hope.” Previously, he fronted the rock band Trip, which drew a loyal following on the VH1 Rock Across America Tour.
The classically, good-looking rock artist, who was shot by high profile fashion photographerTony Duran, has been equally noted for both his talent and his great looks. Music Connection says: “Shapiro’s style of heartfelt and melodic rock takes the Boss’ blue-collar rock and employs the emotive vocals and pop sensibilities that defined the classic U2 era, resulting in a surprisingly contemporary sound that is accessible and familiar.” Comments Mondo Gordo: “He is one of those leading men that the girls will swoon over. He has the look of Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs.”
