Scholarship Program Assists Severely Injured U.S. Military Personnel

American Sentinel University offers seven scholarships through Department of Defense Educational Initiative.

Englewood, CO (PRWEB) April 19, 2006 -- American Sentinel University, an accredited distance learning university, is offering seven scholarships to U.S. military personnel who are severely injured, as well as their spouses. The program is offered in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense initiative DANTES: Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support. The scholarships will be awarded throughout the year, with the first deadline being May 15. Scholarships will cover 50 percent of a student’s tuition, books and materials for the chosen degree or certification program. The scholarship will be applied to the total program tuition.

“This scholarship program is an opportunity to demonstrate our dedication to the service men and women of this country. Online programs such as ours can make all the difference to someone who is trying to create a new path in life,” said Natalie Nixon, who is administering the scholarship program for American Sentinel University.

The Department of Defense dedicated the Severely Injured Joint Operations Center in early February 2005. The center was developed to address care, recuperation, health, benefits and transition issues for military returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who have been severely injured.

The seven scholarships will be awarded throughout the year, in June, August, and October, with applications due the middle of the month before. Applicants will be selected based primarily on financial need. Additional consideration will be given to prior academic achievement and content of the application essay.

American Sentinel University (www.AmericanSentinel.edu) is accredited by the U.S. Secretary of Education-recognized Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. DETC, the premier global accrediting association for distance learning institutions, is also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
