FixingEmail.org Offers Consumers and Business Professionals a Single Place to Lodge Complaints, Educate themselves and Learn how to Protect their Inboxes

FixingEmail.org, an organization dedicated to the mission of safeguarding consumer and corporate email from spam and other malware, today announced it has updated the site with valuable resources to help fight the war on spam and email fraud.

As the world is faced with growing email security challenges including the increase of dangerous phishing attacks and spam, FixingEmail.org is rallying consumers and technology professionals to take action. An online security survey of Internet users between the ages of 7 and 18 revealed that 47 percent have received e-mails with links to X-rated Web sites, and 21 percent innocently open and read spam e-mails. Another online survey from IBM showed that over 237 million attacks were launched around the world during the first six months of 2005, resulting in more than 54,000 attacks occurring every hour.

This has become an online epidemic that threatens the email medium. But with funding support from email security technology companies, FixingEmail.org now offers a place for consumers and companies to learn about the latest government email regulations, ways to protect themselves from spam and viruses, and how to take action, in a single Website, so that hey can become more involved in the fight against email crime.

“FixingEmail’s mission is to provide a “one stop shop” of aggregated information for both consumers and technology people to gain insight into what to beware of, learn how to protect themselves and take action. We feel this is a vital missing link in the fight against spam.” said Tim Matteson, managing partner for Messaging News Magazine, the publishing sponsor for FixingEmail.org.

FixingEmail.org corporate sponsor IronPort Systems believes that the key to battling this online epidemic is mobilizing consumers and companies to raise their voice. Tom Gillis, Chief Marketing Officer at IronPort Systems and author of the book “Get the Message: Surviving the Email Security Crisis” says, “Even with new technology solutions and new laws, it is clear that – unless consumers get involved – the medium of email will continue to be at risk.” Gillis adds, “Although internet security companies are continually updating and improving systems to help consumers battle spam, it is the activism of email users, that in the end will make the real difference. FixingEmail.org will now enable non-technical and technical alike to lodge complaints, share information and educate one another in how to protect their inboxes.

The website, http://www.fixingemail.org, is live and invites consumers, business owners, and technology professionals to visit the site. For more information or to schedule an interview with one of the organization’s spokespersons, please contact Valerie Beaudett at 650-838-9577.
