Cincinnati Black Theatre Company Presents a Celebration of Family and Community in Upcoming '2006 Festival for the Family: Mind, Body, and Spirit'
The Cincinnati Black Theatre Company will be holding its Fifth Biennial Midwest Regional Black Theatre Festival April 24 – May 7. With fifteen live theatre shows, interactive stage readings, and a variety of all-day workshops, the festival is sure to enrich the lives of families throughout the community. Events will be presented in various locations all over town throughout the two-week-long festival.
Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) April 19, 2006 -- The Cincinnati Black Theatre Company will be holding its Fifth Biennial Midwest Regional Black Theatre Festival April 24 – May 7. With fifteen live theatre shows, interactive stage readings, and a variety of all-day workshops, the festival is sure to enrich the lives of families throughout the community. Events will be presented in various locations all over town throughout the two-week-long festival.
A festival fundraiser gala honoring local area families: Mrs. Emily Spicer, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Spencer, The Menefield Family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert O’Neal and Family, and William L. Mallory, Sr. will be held on Thursday, April 27, 6-9 pm – at Six Acres Bed & Breakfast -- Donation is $40.00.
Live shows include Daniel Beaty’s highly acclaimed one-man show, “Emergence-See,” April 28 & 29 at the Freedom Center; “Before it Hits Home,” a moving drama about HIV/AIDS within the black community, April 28-30 at the Cincinnati Art Museum; “Once on This Island”, a lively Caribbean musical presented by the CBTC Children’s Theatre, May 4-6; “Bangin’,” an insightful glimpse into the world of teen gangs, May 5 & 6 at Taft High School; and “Amen Corner,” a poignant tale of life in the poor African American church community, May 5 & 6 at Higher Ground Ministries and Family Life Center. Both evening and matinee shows are offered.
A Readers Theatre “Theatre of the Imagination” features stage readings by actors, with audience participation encouraged at the conclusion of each reading! Readings take place April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the West End Branch YMCA, and May 2-4 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the University of Cincinnati. Both are Pay-What-You-Can, so there is no reason to miss it.
All-day workshops in writing, acting, and dance (featuring the renowned Dayton Contemporary Dance Company) will also be available to all who are interested. Don’t miss Whatcha Say! Workshops for students, featuring an adventurous journey through African American theatrical history, dance, music, and art. Workshops take place at the West End Branch YMCA.
