It had always been the capital of the American music industry, Motown, which spawned the greatest music and musical talent. Some of the best music in the world came from Motown artists including the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Lionel Ritchie. Detroit is also the birthplace of great talent like Stevie Wonder and it ruled the music industry for nearly three decades, from 1959-1988.
Another well-known fact about Detroit is that it is the capital of the Automotive Industry. Detroit, more fondly referred to as the Motor City, is home to all the US Automobile giants: Ford, Chrysler, and GM Motors. The recent North American Auto show in Detroit proved once again that Detroit is the US capital, and probably the international capital of the automotive world. Recently however, Detroit has become a major contender for domination in yet another American pastime: the world of American sports.
2006 has been a great year for the city of Detroit is home to the number one basketball and hockey team in the nation. Also, lest we forget, Detroit just recently hosted Super Bowl XL, the largest televised sporting event of the year, attracting millions of people from all over the world.
For this reason, Detroit should start being called the capital of the American sports world.
