Entitled "Technology 101: A Webinar Series for Beginners," the one-hour sessions will acquaint admissions and marketing professionals with the basics of podcasts, blogs, instant messaging and RSS, a popular means of distributing content.
The webinars will run from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern time on four consecutive Wednesdays, May 10, 17, 24 and 31. There will be a $100 charge per institution, with any number of individuals welcome to participate.
TargetX CEO Brian Wm. Niles will lead the sessions. Niles, who co-founded the company in 1998, is one of the most sought-after speakers and workshop leaders in higher education.
"In speaking with college admissions and marketing people throughout the country, I find that many folks don't know much if anything about these technologies," said Niles "They tell me they aren't able to use these electronic tools in their personal lives, so they're not comfortable adding them to their recruiting efforts."
The online seminars will start with the basics, said Niles. "For example, how do you set up an IM screen name and communicate with friends or relatives? How do you find podcasts online and where do you listen to them?"
Once people are comfortable with using the technologies personally, the webinars will offer suggestions on using them to recruit students, said Niles.
Each session will include an online chat involving the presenter and participants.
