It may be autumn in the land of the Lord of the Rings now, but northern hemisphere sales are just getting underway. Hand made cards and prints feature lovely colour pencil drawings of flowers and gardens.

The site features expatriate American artist Cynthia Swaney’s gentle drawings on full-size (5” x 7”), blank greeting cards. There are also small gift card sets (2.5” x 2.5”) and framed and unframed prints available.

Cynthia studied art at the university level, graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York. But marriage, motherhood and careers as a certified financial planner and travel agent for rock bands (Pink Floyd, the Doobie Brothers, Dr. Hook, among others) interrupted her artistic ambitions.

It was only about four years ago that she began to draw again, starting with flowers and other natural subjects that caught her eye.

Originally, she chose colour pencils over oils, acrylics and water colour because they were so portable. Then she discovered that they were also exciting in terms of being able to combine unusual colours in overlays with precise detail.

The results that she gets often cause people to ask if she uses water colour pencils, but, no, she uses standard colour pencils made by Prismacolor.

Cynthia’s prints and hand made greeting cards are on sale throughout New Zealand, in some of the nation’s most important museum and gallery shops, including the Christchurch Art Gallery, the Auckland Museum and the Dunedin Public Art Gallery.

Her company, Rooster Graphics, is based in Nelson, a small city on New Zealand’s South Island.
