NationalWay Healthcare Association has introduced a new health benefits program designed for the millions of Americans that cannot afford or cannot get adequate health coverage. The new program called the Custom BMI is a combination of basic insurance coverage, association savings and health services intended to empower the customer with tools for their own personal health management.

Over 45.5 million individuals remain uninsured in the United States as the cost of insurance premiums and medical services continue to rise significantly. The number of uninsured Americans continues to grow despite increased attention and public awareness of the worsening situation. Almost 1 in 6 now living within this country do not have necessary coverage for health care services and products including doctor and hospital visits, dental services, vision care and prescription medications.

The current market largely ignores this segment of the population offering traditional major medical insurance with premiums out of reach for many middle to low income families. In addition, a growing number of Americans are being denied coverage for medical reasons or ‘pre-existing conditions’. These conditions, such as high-blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and HIV, prevent individuals from acquiring medical coverage. Unfortunately, this segment of the population needs health insurance the most but they find coverage options very limited or must obtain protection through work. As more and more companies drop or reduce benefits due to rising premiums, even group coverage may not present viable options for this affected community.

With this market in mind, NationalWay Healthcare Association has released a new program designed specifically for those Americans in need of basic insurance options at a reasonable price. The Custom BMI program is now available for Association members and includes a combination of benefits tailored for the family or individual finding themselves out of coverage options. Business owners may also look to the Custom BMI as an alternative opportunity to offer their employees health benefits without having to pay the rising premiums of traditional major medical insurance.

The Custom BMI includes a savings program to reduce an individual or family’s bills for most medical goods and services. These savings are generated through the buying power of the Preferred Provider Organization Networks arranged by NationalWay for its membership. Similar to the networks used by insurance companies to reduce medical costs, this network group includes doctors, dentists, optometrists, pharmacies and hospitals all across the nation. NationalWay is reporting the Custom BMI includes the BeechStreet network family of doctors and hospitals, one of the most recognizable network names in the industry. These PPO Networks ‘re-price’ medical bills incurred by members at networked doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, etc. to the lowest possible wholesale price.

After the bill has been reduced, the Custom BMI provides basic insurance coverage that pays according to a schedule on doctor visits, hospital stays, surgeries, anesthesia, lab work, x-rays, trips to the emergency room and more. NationalWay has partnered with Fairmont Premier Insurance Company (a division of Fairmont Specialty Group) to provide basic limited medical insurance benefits to members participating in the Custom BMI program. These benefits pay a scheduled or predetermined amount toward costs accrued at the doctor or hospital. For example, the top coverage level pays $1000 for each day a member spends confined to the hospital up to 30 days a year regardless of how much or how little the actual bill may be (see plan terms and limitations for complete benefit description). The concept of the Custom BMI plan combines these insurance payouts with PPO network savings to give NationalWay members the greatest benefit possible.

Through this combination of basic benefits, NationalWay has created a program that offers basic benefits at a lower average price than the major medical options available in the market today. Additionally, all Custom BMI plan levels are guaranteed issue, meaning that regardless of pre-existing condition, anyone may become a member of the Custom BMI program. NationalWay and its affiliated benefit providers have targeted for membership those that have been previously denied insurance coverage before because of health related issues or those that simply cannot afford the premiums of today’s coverage options.

“It’s unfortunate that most benefit providers are ignoring what amounts to approximately one sixth of our country. Just because a person doesn’t have much money doesn’t mean they don’t deserve insurance options. In the auto insurance business, people are given a wide range of coverage options from full coverage including personal injury protection, uninsured motorist coverage, etc to the most basic liability coverage for those that can’t afford full coverage. This range of options generally doesn’t exist in the current health insurance marketplace. NationalWay simply wants to make sure everyone has an opportunity to receive quality health care,” says Wes Long, CEO of ExecuHealth Management Group and cofounder of NationalWay Healthcare Association.

NationalWay representatives point out the Custom BMI is not intended to replace existing major medical insurance coverage nor deter qualified individuals from receiving the protection of that coverage. Instead, NationalWay seeks to offer an alternative to the traditional means of insurance by offering a product designed specifically for those Americans that cannot look to major medical as a viable and affordable option.
