Air Camp 2006 Lets Kids Fly High During the Summer

Summer Camp at Van Nuys Airport Puts kids 9 - 17 in the cockpit for actual flights. At Air Camp, they'll learn about piloting skills, aviation careers, navigation, safety and fly a plane under the guidance of certified flight instructors.

Van Nuys, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2006 -- This summer, kids 9 – 17 will have a summer camp experience like few others. Air Camp 2006, operated by Hollywood Aviators flight school, will provide real flight training both in their flight simulator and in their airplanes, introducing kids to the thrill of piloting and aviation.

During each two-week session, flight instructors and guest speakers will demonstrate aerodynamics, navigation, flight safety, airport operations and careers in aviation. In addition, each child will take the controls of a single-engine airplane four times, including a complete flight from one airport to another. A Certified Flight Instructor from Hollywood Aviators will sit alongside to direct the pilot and assure a safe flight.

“I’ve been a camper, I’ve been a counselor, and I’ve sent my kids to camp, and I know this experience beats just about anything offered during the summer,” said Dan Katz, president of Hollywood Aviators. “Kids will walk away from this with an incredible lifetime memory. And maybe a few of them will even pursue a career in aviation.”

Each session, offered three days a week for two weeks, costs $600, which includes simulator rental, airplane rental, headset rental, tee shirt, student pilot logbook, aeronautical charts, first flight certificate, camp photograph, pilot workbook and flight training discounts for family members.

“The first time I sat at the controls of a plane was at the age of 43,” said Katz, who is now 50. What I would have given to have that experience as a kid. Flying is something that changes people, gives them amazing confidence and self-esteem. We see it with the kids who are already flying with us… and with the adults too!”

The first session is scheduled to begin July 3, and applications must be received by June 15.
