Employers and Educators Across the Country will Celebrate Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day Thursday, April 27, 2006
At-home Activities for Girls and Boys Complement Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day.
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 23, 2006 -- Help shape the future of the girls and boys in your community by providing activities that inspire and teach them about their lives!
On April 27, 2006, parents, businesses and teachers will help girls and boys consider what it takes to balance work, life and family. Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® is an internationally-celebrated educational program that connects what students learn in school with the actual working world. By being introduced to different workplaces and vocations, they connect today’s schoolwork with their future.

You can be a part of this important day by providing some at-home activities for girls and boys in your community:
The Future is Me: Draw or write a news story featuring you and something you hope to accomplish someday. For example: “Sarah Stein is the First Woman to Pitch in the Major Leagues!” or “Pedro Lopez, Brain Researcher, Discovers Cure for Autism!”
Vote for Me: The race is on! You’re running for the Mayor of your city or town. (You might someday!) Look around your neighborhood. What in your neighborhood do you care about the most? Who needs help? What needs changing for the better? Fill in the blanks of the following campaign speech to let voters know why you are the best person for the job. (Find the form in the Shaping the Future activity book).
Change the Way the World Works: You are an advice columnist for a city newspaper. When something gets out of balance in a person’s home life, work life, or both, they write to you for advice. Everybody loves reading what you have to say. Your answers are always wise, creative, and often funny too. (Find the letters in the Shaping the Future activity book).
TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS AND SONS TO WORK® - TO GO!
We all know it's the fourth Thursday in April every year. But you can celebrate it all year 'round! At dinner time, in your car ... wherever you are. Kids, interview your favorite adults and then share your stories with the world. Randomly selected essays will be published for all to see. Download more activity and curriculum ideas: www.DaughtersAndSonsToWork.org
FIRST, KIDS ASK ADULTS:
1) Tell me about what you do and the people who work with you?
2) What inspires you and what do you love about your job?
3) What would I need to know to get your job?
4) What would you like to be different about your job?
5) What difference do you make with your job?
6) How do you balance everything?
7) What did you want to be when you were my age?
THEN, KIDS YOU ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS:
8) After hearing so much about jobs, what do you think you want to do when you grow up? Why?
9) What kind of education or training will you need?
10) To make your dreams come true, what can you begin today?
Now, not only is your dinner "to go" ... so is your career inspiration! Dream everywhere.
Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day was launched in 2003 and evolved from the Ms. Foundation for Women's extraordinarily successful Take Our Daughters To Work® Day, which began in 1993. Get your community involved by visiting:
