Canada's only all-realism art school, Academy of Realist Art (ARA), is celebrating its move to larger facilities (http://www.fineartschoolstory.com ) with an Open House and Exhibit this Saturday, April 29th, between 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. The recent expansion makes ARA the largest Academic art school in North America.
Several art-instruction prizes will be awarded after the event. Artists and art students can enter themselves for the Draw online at http://www.AcademyofRealistArt.com/Contest.asp
Prizes worth about $2,000 include two Grand Prizes of a one-week Still Life workshop and six Life Drawing Prizes, each for one week of classroom instruction in Toronto, near Buffalo, NY and Detroit, MI.
Featured artworks by students and faculty will include figure studies in oil and charcoal, still life paintings, landscapes, portraits and "academic studies" from the special classical-realism oriented curriculum. In addition to the full curriculum, short-term art workshops such as these prizes run throughout the year, attracting students from all over North America and beyond.
Admission to the event is free. Please phone ahead for groups of a dozen or more.
Academy of Realist Art (ARA) http://www.AcademyofRealistArt.com is a private fine art school in the classical tradition, modeled on the great 19th-century Academies. Located in Toronto, ARA offers a proven curriculum of step-by-step, self-paced fine art study in a group environment. Students can learn to draw and paint at ARA full- or part-time and during periodic workshops. After completing the rigorous four-level (approximately four-year) program -- which includes the famous Bargue/Gerome Design Course and the painstakingly reconstructed curriculum stemming from Renaissance roots -- students receive a diploma transferable toward a degree at accredited colleges and universities via portfolio evaluation and credit banking. Academy of Realist Art is one of the few fine art schools to be accredited and recommended by the Art Renewal Center for excellence in drawing and painting instruction in the classical realist style.
Senior artist-instructors Fernando Freitas and Juan Carlos Martinez are both prize-winning contemporary realists. Freitas' exceptional draftsmanship and teaching style are evident in the recently released DVD, Drawing the Figure. Martinez' artwork and method are currently featured by _International Artist_ magazine, in a six-part article, "The Academy Way."
Living Masters and other art experts enrich the ARA curriculum with special demonstrations and lectures every semester.
