Gymnastics Canada Gymnastique (GCG) http://www.gymcan.org has selected MotionCoach as its visualization software performance enhancement application of choice for Women’s Artistic Gymnastics.
First established in 1969, Gymnastics Canada is the national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in Canada. Gymnastics Canada works closely with the twelve Provincial Federations and the 700 local clubs to provide a broad range of programs and services to meet the needs of all participants. From athlete development to coaching and judging education, Gymnastics Canada sets the operating standards and practices for the sport in Canada. “Our mandate is to promote and provide positive and diverse gymnastics experience through the delivery of quality and safegymnastics programming
MotionCoach is a visualization software application used by coaches to capture video of training students/athletes. Coaches can quickly overlay video recordings of students with graphics to help the student understand their movement. The students acquire the technical skills more quickly by relating the feeling of the motion to accurate visual feedback.
When coaching young athletes, especially in women's artistic gymnastics, it is critical to acquire advanced level skills as quickly as possible. MotionCoach has a central role in that process. Lorraine Currie, Program Manager at Futures Gymnastics, states: “The visual feedback from MotionCoach shows the athlete areas that require improvement but also where improvement has been achieved. Both are critical to the development of winning athletes.”
The MotionCoach Ultra MX computer/camera/software solution purchased by the GCG is light enough to be carried all day, and also has wireless internet connectivity so the coach can capture/analyze and e-mail a video clip to a student in under 2 minutes while standing in the gym.
Claude Pelletier, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics National Head Coach of the GCG states: “At the GCG we are looking to advanced technologies like MotionCoach to develop the ability of Canadian Gymnastics coaching. We want to provide developing young talent the opportunity to stay at home to get the best coaching in the world.”
MotionCoach’s advanced Internet integration enables remote coaching. Videos can be captured in Austria during international meets and e-mailed to head coaches back in Canada. Analysis of the video can be returned all in a matter of minutes. This type of technology allows specialist coaches to be in two places at the same time.
James Alexander, MotionCoach Customer communication director, states: “We are thrilled to be involved with the GCG and development of gymnastics in Canada. We have been very impressed with the vision and priority that the GCG has placed of adopting technology to improve coaching. Their incentive as pioneers should be applauded and emulated by all federal level sporting bodies”
The GCG has negotiated a special discount for any registered gymnastics club in Canada to acquire MotionCoach.
