Artist/Author to perform book reading/signing inspired by Mom.

Patricia Cordone was only 60 when she passed away yet she left behind a rich legacy. She gave her love, her time, and her resources to everyone she met. Pat had a deep well of joy and all those around her were lifted by her beautiful spirit. Her daughter Shannon inherited her mother’s sock monkey after her passing and was inspired by the monkey’s joyful smile. She gathered fun items that related to her Mother and created her first sock monkey painting as a playful tribute to her mother. Soon, an entire series of sock money paintings emerged. Each painting helped Grissom transmute grief in to joy. After several paintings were completed she was surprised to discover that as she painted, the text for a book emerged. Monkey Made of Sockies is the joyful result.

Through eloquent, colorful paintings, the reader skips through this loving world as they learn why the child prefers the sock monkey to the other toys. With a bright smile that lights up any imagination, the sock monkey helps readers reach the sky, lie in the grass and happily pass the day. The result is a heartwarming picture book that expands the imagination. A beautiful book rendered with love and care, Monkey Made of Sockies is perfect to be shared with children, adults “and people who like to smile.”

Shannon will be performing a reading and signing books at Barnes and Noble Gilroy 6825 Camino Arroyo on Saturday May 13th at 1:00 p.m. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she’ll teach children the sock monkey song she composed and will also raffle off sock monkey kits.

An award-winning artist, Grissom is the host of the television series, “Give Your Walls Some Soul.” Leo Licensing, LLC, in Cookeville, Tenn., and various galleries represent her.
