CHAUNCEY, GA (PRWEB) May 1, 2006 -- Descendants of Captain John Cravey, Susannah Campbell Cravey, Cealey Pickren Cravey and Sarah Burnham Cravey will gather for their annual family reunion during Mother’s Day Weekend.

There will be great food, fellowship and fun as the gathering kicks off at Noon on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Jay Bird Springs Resort off U.S. Highway 341 in Chauncey. Family members will gather at Shelter No. 4.

While there, we will look back over the past year to remember those who have passed away, those who have made significant accomplishments and welcome the newest children into the fold.

“It’s always great to get together with family and catch up,” said Eric Cravey, 2006 Chair of the event. “Our family has become so spread apart over the years it’s hard to stay in contact with everyone on a daily basis. So, we look forward to getting together each year for the reunion.”

In recent years, thanks to the technology of the Internet, some Craveys have traveled from as far away as Texas to come and meet their Georgia cousins for the first time. There are thousands of Craveys in Texas thanks to one of Captain John’s sons who moved there at age 17 and never returned to his home between Rhine and Milan. Capt. John and his first wife Susannah are buried near Rhine in the Campbell cemetery.

Over the years, descendants of Capt. John have gone on to achieve many different levels of greatness ranging from college professors to authors to civil engineers and even politicians. Zachariah Daniel “Zack” Cravey, a native of Milan, Ga., went on to long life of public service. Zack served as Telfair County Tax Collector from 1920-33; Georgia State Game and Fish Commissioner from 1934-37; Georgia Natural Resources Commissioner from 1941-43; State Comptroller General from 1947-63. While Comptroller, Zack helped usher in sweeping laws that have served as models for other states around the U.S.
