Michigan Congressional Candidate is First Politician to Sign Ethics Pledge
The Business Ethics Pledge, an international movement that has attracted signers on six continents, entered a new industry with the first politician to sign, Tony Trupiano, candidate for Congress in Michigan's 11th Congressional District. Pledge founder Shel Horowitz welcomed the signing, saying ethics is strongly needed in politics.
Dearborn Heights, MI (PRWEB) May 2, 2006 -- As Members of Congress fall like dominoes under the Abramoff, DeLay, and other scandals, one would-be Congressman has a different approach. Tony Trupiano, a candidate in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, believes there’s still a place for the ethical politician.
Trupiano, 45, is the first politician known to have signed the Business Ethics Pledge, which states:
"I pledge allegiance, in my heart and soul, to the concepts of honesty, integrity, and quality in business. I recognize that the cornerstone of success is treating all stakeholders fairly, with compassion, and with a commitment to service. Working from abundance, I recognize that even my competitors can become important allies. I will not tolerate crooked practices in my business, from co-workers, direct or indirect reports, supervisors, managers, suppliers, or anyone else—and if I encounter such practices, I will refuse to go along with them and report them to appropriate authorities within and outside the company. I pledge to support the "triple bottom line" of environmental, social, and financial responsibility. And I pledge to participate in a serious effort to focus the business community on these principles, by sharing this message with at least 100 other business leaders."
The Pledge, started by Shel Horowitz of Hadley, Massachusetts, has signers in every continent except Antarctica. Horowitz, 49, award-winning author of Principled Profit: Marketing That Puts People First, started the campaign with the goal of “making crooked business as unthinkable in ten years as slavery is today.” Horowitz’s ethics blog, located at http://www.principledprofit.com/good-business-blog, often covers political ethics. “I welcome Mr. Trupiano to the Pledge movement,” he said. “Ethics in politics is at least as important as ethics in business, and Mr. Trupiano has a strong business background. I hope he’s the first of many politicians to join this exciting and energizing movement.”
Trupiano, a lifelong Michigan restaurant, has been a restaurant owner, nationally syndicated radio talk show host, media trainer, and public relations agent; he is the author of two books. He also has a long history of involvement in labor, community, and social justice causes. His candidacy has been endorsed by Progressive Democrats of America.
