What happens when your past does not belong to you — and your future may force you to make decisions that can doom the world or save it? Nikki Persley examines this question in "Serpent of Eternity," a haunting page-turner that is steeped in secrets, and spans centuries in a thought-provoking exploration of human nature, identity, and the age-old conflict between good and evil.
Anya Alan, the protagonist in Persley’s novel, must embark on a journey of self-discovery and learn to tap into her innate talents and strengths in order to save herself and humanity from the misanthropic demon that pursues her. Is she the latest incarnation of an African earth goddess? Members of a secret religious society strive to help her reclaim her destiny as the demon plots to make her the vessel for its rebirth. Anya discovers that monsters do exist, and when her perfectly constructed life unravels, she is thrust into a world where fantasy and reality blur.
“I wanted to write a story characterized by duality, one that paralleled mythology and religion, and highlighted the many facets of ancient beliefs that still exist in the modern world. Something that delved into the human spirit — a slice of life and experience that focused on the different masks we wear, and the fears that drive us to hide behind them. I like to think I accomplished that and hope readers will agree,” said the first-time author.
A conflict-packed fusion of classic and contemporary, "Serpent of Eternity" opens the door to plausible impossibilities. It deftly weaves mystery, peril and a diverse cast of characters from all walks of history into a fast paced, clever, and engaging allegory to feminine power.
Persley celebrates the release of "Serpent of Eternity" with friends and fans in Brooklyn on Friday, May 5, 2006.
