Suffern, NY (PRWEB) May 3, 2006 -- More than 650 people came out to experience “April in Paris,” the 21st Annual Good Samaritan Hospital Spring Ball, held on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at the Hilton Woodcliff Lake, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. The event was able to raise nearly $430,000 for the upgrading of Good Samaritan Hospital’s General Surgical Suite and Operating Room, part of the Perioperative Services Division in the hospital.
Commonly referred to as the community’s premier black tie event, this year’s ball featured a “April in Paris” theme and honored George Strayton, President and CEO of Provident Bank with the Good Samaritan Hospital Medal of Honor for his service and dedication to the community. Dr. Lewis Bobroff was this year’s recipient of the Sister Joseph Rita Award for Medical Excellence because his work has earned him great respect from both patients and colleagues alike.
“We were ecstatic by this year’s turnout and the enormous community backing that was given for this event, and for Good Samaritan Hospital in general,” noted Foundation AVP Christine Maraia. “Every year, we have been amazed by the continued support and money received from our community, and we were once again elated when our monetary goals were not only met, but surpassed. The generosity and outpouring of the community have made this Spring Ball another high point for Good Samaritan.”
The “April in Paris” Ball featured elaborate decorations, delectable cuisine, fine wine, and delicious desserts that allowed each guest to become immersed in the French experience. The live entertainment of the Anthony Mills Orchestra set the mood and inspired guests to dance the night away. Throughout the affair, French-inspired raffle prizes and giveaways were distributed to lucky winners.
Mr. George Strayton and Dr. Lewis Bobroff
Although the entire ball was a complete success, the award presentation honoring community leaders is always a highlight of the event. This year George Strayton received the Good Samaritan Hospital Medal of Honor for his service and dedication to the community. Mr. Strayton joined Provident Bank in 1982 and was named President and CEO in 1986. Under Mr. Strayton’s guidance and leadership, the bank has grown from six branches to 33 branches and from $288 million in assets to $2.6 billion in assets. The bank currently operates branches in Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster and Putnam Counties in New York, with one office in Bergen County, New Jersey.
As well as being a superior businessman, Mr. Strayton has maintained an active community presence for Provident Bank for the past 23 years. Currently, Mr. Strayton is a Trustee at St. Thomas Aquinas College, a director of the New York Bankers Association, and a board member of America’s Community Bankers. Additionally, he serves as a director of Orange & Rockland Utilities and the New York Business Development Corporation. Along with Mr. Stayton many roles, he has also served six years as a director for the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York and was a chair member of the Community Bankers Association of New York State, Rockland Business Association, Rockland County Boy Scouts of America, Rockland United Way and a number of other local organizations. Good Samaritan Hospital was pleased to award the highly interactive member of the community, George Strayton, the Medal of Honor for his commendable passion for the people in his area.
Another outstanding leader, Dr. Lewis Bobroff was this year’s recipient of the Sister Joseph Rita Award for Medical Excellence. A Harvard Medical grad in 1969, Dr. Bobroff became board certified in diagnostic radiology in 1974. He specializes in cardiovascular, interventional radiology, and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and now, this deserving honoree is the acting Director of Radiology at Good Samaritan Hospital as well as President of Ramapo Radiology Associates.
Dr. Bobroff’s excellence extended beyond the work place when he joined an elite group of physicians to raise funds to support several Israeli hospitals as part of a goodwill trip to Israel in 2005. Along with a selection of Good Samaritan doctors, he was given the honor of presenting a Sefer Torah to the Israeli Navy. He is currently a member of a Talmud study group known as “Mendy’s Shiur,” that actively holds weekly meetings to discuss the teachings of the Torah and recognizes the honor of Jewish tradition. Dr. Lewis Bobroff’s work has earned him the respect from his patients, his colleagues, and his community which made him the perfect recipient for this year's Sister Joseph Rita Award.
“Good Samaritan Hospital wanted to honor these outstanding individuals to let their community express their appreciation and to let them know that the hospital is truly honored to have them as our friends and our supporters. The passion and dedication that they exhibit in aspect of their lives demonstrates their merit,” said Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital.
Proceeds to Fund Improvements
Continuing its original intent, the proceeds from the Spring Ball will aid the Good Samaritan Hospital in providing quality help to those in need. This year’s proceeds of nearly $430,000 will go to Good Samaritan Hospital’s General Surgical Suite and Operating Room part of the Perioperative Services Division in the hospital. The money that was raised will allow for the improvement and modernization of the suite and new equipment that will enhance patient care and comfort.
“With the support of our community each year, the Foundation is able to get the much needed financial funding that aids directly with lowering the costs associated with bringing advanced medical care to the community,” said Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator for Good Samaritan Hospital. “The money raised through the Spring Ball will help to fund improvements and equipment needed at Good Samaritan Hospital so that we can assure that our patients receive the finest care.”
Of the $430,000 that was raised, $111,300 came through ads placed in the Good Samaritan Journal, and over $16,000 came from raffle tickets with French inspired prizes.
