Sportsplex Gymnastics Captures Another Maryland State Championship Trophy
The Sportsplex Gymnastics Level 5 Team captured the 1st place team trophy at the Maryland State Gymnastics Championships sponsored by Baltimore County Gymnastics in White Marsh, MD.
Landover, MD (PRWEB) May 4, 2006 -- This is the second year of competition for the Level 5 team. The team members are Khyla Anderson, Nia Baker, Alexandria Grimes, Kennedy Jones, Jessica Lincoln, Naomi Parham and Lauren Roach. Lauren and Kennedy placed 1st and 2nd respectively All-Around (AA) in their age group. Naomi and Nia placed 3rd and 4th respectively (AA) in their age group. Khyla and Jessica placed 2nd and 3rd respectively (AA) in their age group and Alexandria placed 2nd (AA) in her age group. Khyla and Jessica made the Level 5 Maryland State Team. The athletes with the highest all around scores, regardless of age, are chosen for this team.
"Level 5 Team focused during their practice sessions, says Coach Grace Ortiz. This was carried out in their performance at the meet. They scored the 1st fifteen scores out of 275 gymnasts at the competition.” This is the first time Coach Grace has had two Championship Teams in the same competitive season.
The Sportsplex Gymnastics program is under the direction of Pattie Delaney at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. The program consists of 37 athletes, with levels 4, 5, 6, and 7 as competitive levels. The level 3 team does not compete. The Sportsplex Gymnastics competitive program started in 2004. The Sportsplex Booster Club supports the Sportsplex Gymnastics Team.
