Titles will tackle misconceptions about Islam and its relation to the West.

Ghazal Omid, political activist and acclaimed author of “Living in Hell” (Park Avenue Publishers), announced today that she will author three new books in 2006. The new titles, which will be formally announced at BookExpo America, May 19-21, 2006 in Washington, DC (Booth 2361A), will draw upon Ms. Omid’s scholarly research of the Middle East and contrast her upbringing in Iran with her experiences living in the West.

“Islam 101” offers a concise breakdown on the world’s most talked about religion. Omid explores the true meanings of Islam, dispelling misconceptions and answering some of the most commonly posed questions and controversies. Omid will show how the Islam practiced by Iran is a misappropriation of the true religion.

“Iran and Its Future” seeks to humanize Iranians and draw commonalities rather than differences between the Middle Eastern and Western cultures. Omid analyzes Iran’s recent past, drawing a concise political history in order to contextualize the present. Omid seeks to give readers an understanding of the present to better enable an exploration of Iran’s future. The book also looks at how the West can enter into a dialogue with Iran and help shape its future for the better.

“Poverty in Paradise” is a pictorial exploration of the inequalities of wealth that exist in the West. Omid’s photographic novel will contrast the rich and poor who inhabit America’s largest cities. She seeks to dispel the myths that exist amongst the Middle Eastern population that the West is simply a homogenously wealthy society.

“It is a delight to unveil these new projects at BEA,” said Ghazal Omid. “The reaction to “Living in Hell” has been fantastic. I expect that these upcoming titles will be met with equally favorable feedback. My new books will take readers on a journey that will establish a dialogue between the West and the Middle East. It is my ambition that these titles will help bridge some of the cultural divides that exist between our two societies.”

Ghazal Omid recently formed the organization “Iran and Its Future” (http://www.iranfuture.org), a body designed to help spread awareness of the plight facing millions of everyday Iranians forced to live under the ongoing Iranian dictatorship.
