Modern Renaissance Man Returns to Center Stage

The new band and their brilliant new CD – Journey to the Hieros Gamos.

(PRWEB) May 5, 2006 -- A prolific sideman, journeyman Tookes has worked with a diverse spectrum of recording and performing artists while exploring multiple genres and idioms. From early mentors like Maurice White and Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire, Todd Rundgren to modern icons Stevie Wonder and James Taylor, Elton John and Donald Fagen. Darryl’s professional experience includes: Dave Grusin, Quincy Jones, George Benson, Sting, Chris Botti, Dave Valentin, Gerry Mulligan, Bobby McFerrin, Patricia Kaas, Carmen McRae, Leonard Bernstein, Patti Austin, Roberta Flack, Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Buster Williams, Luther Vandross, Laurie Anderson, Chris McNulty, Chuck Loeb, Howard Levy, Joe Beck, Juan Gabriel, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Korn, Blondie, Diana Ross, Patti Labelle and Chic.

Darryl’s partnership with the great pianist and orchestrator Joseph Joubert has become central to the evolution of his musical journey. After a brief hiatus Tookes re-emerges on the scene with his vision complete in an entirely new sound arising from his self-inflicted isolation. He has brilliantly honed his distinctive style into an entirely new non-linear form of music incorporating universal myth with personal narrative. Expanding his romantic ballads to a new form of multilayered storytelling, Tookes reaches deep into the universal myths guiding humanity during this critical time of cultural transition.

From his seminal debut hit, “Lifeguard” this Modern Renaissance Man returns to center stage with his new band and their brilliant new CD – Journey to the Hieros Gamos.
