Catholics Protest Da Vinci Code in New York

Catholics in Rochester, New York, did not wait until the May 19 opening to protest The Da Vinci Code movie. On May 1, nearly 50 local Catholic residents, young and old, paraded with signs and banners in front of the Tinseltown USA Theatre to express their rejection of the movie, which will be shown there.

Hanover, Penn. (PRWEB) May 5, 2006 -- Catholics in Rochester, New York, did not wait until the May 19 opening to protest The Da Vinci Code movie. On May 1, nearly 50 local Catholic residents, young and old, paraded with signs and banners in front of the Tinseltown USA Theatre to express their rejection of the movie, which will be shown there.

Led by Norman Fulkerson of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) and its America Needs Fatima campaign, the group prayed the rosary, shouted slogans and displayed signs. The protest is prompting other local groups to consider protesting before the movie’s May 19 opening night.

“We stand here today because The Da Vinci Code attacks the Divinity of Christ, the Papacy and the hierarchical structure of the Catholic Church. It’s time to say enough is enough. We repudiate this public blasphemy. Hollywood has no right to defame the adorable Person of Our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Fulkerson.

A bagpiper in the demonstration playing tunes like “God Bless America,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Marine Hymn.” The protestors held signs that read: “Fiction or Not, The Da Vinci Code Offends God!” Another said: “The Great Hoax is The Da Vinci Code and Not Christianity!” Another said: “Da Vinci Code: Fiction is No Excuse for Offensive Falsehood!”
