For the first time in the prestigious panel’s history, Mahogany Media Review awards urban Latino novel.

“Forever My Lady”, written by first-time novelist, Jeff Rivera, won both Best New Author and Best Urban Fiction awards by the Mahogany Media Review panel. It the first time in the prestigious panel’s history that an urban fiction award and best new novel award was awarded to an urban Latino novel.

“ “Forever My Lady” is a remarkable love story with such well-developed characters.” says Dawn Ruby, president and founder of Mahogany Book Club, a national book club based in Albany, New York. The award has also honored such esteemed best-selling authors as Walter Mosley, Eric Jerome Dickey and Terry McMillan.

“I was shocked that it won both awards.” Rivera says, “I had no idea I had even been nominated. I’m completely blown away and my family is beaming with pride.”

“Forever My Lady” tells the provocative story of a young Hispanic “vato” or thug who struggles to turn his life around while in prison boot camp. He expects the love of his life to be there when he gets out, only to find out she’s getting ready to marry another guy.

“I recommend the book to everyone,” says Kathy Silvas from Chicano Magazine, “That’s why we gave “Forever My Lady” 5 stars.”

The accolades continue to roll in as “Urban Latino Magazine” recently featured a glowing review of the novel in its upcoming issue. It was also chosen as Mi Gente’s Book Pick of the Year.

Author Jeff Rivera has come a long way, having been homeless as a teen living with his mother, brother and pets in a 2 door Buick for months. It was a period Rivera calls, “the most horrific time of my life.”

He has since used writing as a way to express himself and to spread positive messages to the world. Those positive messages caught the attention of Warner Books who got wind of the novel and bought the rights within 7 days with the help of Rivera’s agent, Jenoyne Adams, from Levine Greenberg Agency. The powerhouse publishing company will be re-releasing “Forever My Lady” in Summer of 2007.

Although Warner Books will not be releasing the book until next year, “Forever My Lady” is currently available today through Rivera’s website,, and by special order through virtually every major bookstore across the nation.
