Burroughs & Chapin Announces a Series of Events to Celebrate The Myrtle Beach Pavilion's 'Farewell Season'

Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., has announced a series of exciting events to celebrate The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park’s “Farewell Season.” The season-long line-up is designed to spark memories of past park visits and to generate special new memories during the park’s last year of operation.

Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) May 6, 2006 -- Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., has announced a series of exciting events to celebrate The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park’s “Farewell Season.” The season-long line-up is designed to spark memories of past park visits and to generate special new memories during the park’s last year of operation.

“Burroughs & Chapin promised that the Farewell Season of The Pavilion would be one of excitement, as well as a time for those who love The Pavilion to reflect upon all the good times they’ve had there,” said Tim Ruedy, Vice President of Operations for Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc.’s Sports, Entertainment & Recreation Division. “So we’ve assembled a line-up of activities that embodies the spirit of The Pavilion and The Attic. It’s a mix of musical performances, shagging exhibitions, fantastic fireworks and even a ‘Last Ride’ day with unlimited rides and special commemoratives.”

Two musical highlights of the Farewell Season will be appearances by General Johnson and the Chairmen of the Board on July 5 and Sugarcreek on July 9.

The “Chairmen of the Board” is one of the best-known beach music groups in the nation and has performed in Myrtle Beach for decades. The group is popular among generations of shaggers who have visited the Grand Strand.

Sugarcreek, The Attic’s house band for more than 10 years, is more closely associated with the history of The Attic than any other band. Thousands of teenagers grew into adulthood dancing to the music of Sugarcreek.

To make the Farewell Season even more special, Burroughs & Chapin has partnered with the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce to enrich its entertainment offerings this summer, as well as to publicize them through a new Chamber Web site, www.pavilionmemories.com.

“Throughout the summer, a series of concerts sponsored by The Myrtle Beach Pavilion will be presented on The Pavilion boardwalk stage,“ said Ruedy. “These events will be known as the ‘The Pavilion Farewell Season Sun Fun Concert Series’ and will be held on Fridays, ending with the Beach, Boogie and BBQ Festival.”

Other major events during the summer will include a June 11th Latin-American Day at the Pavilion, featuring a free Peralta Concert and Spanish-American themed shows in between concert sets; a September 17th Family Appreciation Day which will raise money for the United Way of Horry County; and an exclusive “Last Ride” park experience on September 30th.

A schedule of events, including details, is attached.

“We are working on more events which we’ll announce at a later time,” said Ruedy. “It’s going to be one memorable Farewell Season.”

About The Pavilion And The Attic

Located on Ocean Boulevard in the heart of Myrtle Beach, S.C., The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park has been entertaining generations of families for more than 50 years. An 11-acre amusement park by the Atlantic Ocean, the Pavilion features more than 40 rides ranging from a large variety of kiddie rides to the Hurricane Category 5, the biggest roller coaster in South Carolina.

The Pavilion’s main building, which houses The Attic, a non-alcoholic teen nightclub, is located on the east side of Ocean Boulevard and the amusement park is located on the west side of Ocean Boulevard.

Two of the Pavilion’s offerings have been recognized for their historic significance: The Herschell-Spillman Carousel dates back to 1912 and the Baden Band Organ was first exhibited at the World Exposition in Paris in 1900.
