In the 'old days' including a CD/DVD with a book was considered high-tech. But in many cases by the time a book makes it to press, it and the CD/DVD are already outdated. Blogs and Podcasts allow us to connect and stay connected to our core audience.

A milestone in publishing history and a first in podcasting history, author Fred Johnson, former vice president of marketing at Amp'd Mobile, has announced that he will be giving away dozens of Global Mobile books to his podcast listening audience. Johnson, a trailblazer in the tech publishing industry, decided to make this bold move to thank his listeners for their continued feedback and encouragement. (http://www.globalmobileonline.com)
“Global Mobile, Connecting without Walls, Wires, or Borders” shows non-geeks how to utilize the newest gadgets and advances in mobile technology. The accompanying blog and podcast, located at GlobalMobileOnline.com, are updated regularly to help readers stay connected to the book and updated on the latest in mobile technology.
“The one-two punch of a published book and a frequently updated podcast are the next wave in publishing,” said Johnson, already working on the next revision of Global Mobile. “In the 'old days' including a CD/DVD with a book was considered high-tech. But in many cases by the time a book makes it to press, it and the CD/DVD are already outdated. Blogs and Podcasts allow us to connect and stay connected to our core audience.”
The Diffusion Group predicted that the U.S. podcast audience will climb from 840,000 in 2004 to 56 million by 2010. FeedBurner, a popular news feed service provider, says that it is now handling 44,000 podcast feeds. Before the end of the year, the company says it expects to manage 100,000 podcasts and 5 million podcast subscriptions.
Johnson predicts many authors will follow his lead and offer podcasts to accompany their books. “Giving away copies of my book may not make my publisher happy, but in the end I wrote this book to help people. That's what technology is all about, helping you get stuff done ... faster.”
