The 2006 Global ETF Awards® dinner held by US based Exchangetradedfunds.com and UK based International Fund Investment publications (IFI) was a great success. ETF professionals from all over the world attended the half-day educational Workshop and Awards presentation in New York City at the Grand Hyatt, on April 20, 2006.
The event began in the afternoon with a Workshop, which featured two distinct sessions — the “Investors Discussion Forum” and the “Industry Discussion Forum.” Topics ranged from trading strategies for investors to new product developments and global industry challenges. Speakers included: John Prestbo, Editor and Executive Director, Dow Jones Indexes; Thomas Uhlmann, Chief Marketing Officer, INDEXCHANGE; Neil Bathon, President, Financial Research Corporation; Paul Stephens, Chicago Board of Options Exchange; Cliff Weber, SVP, American Stock Exchange; Ozgur Guneri, Fund Board Director, Dow Jones Istanbul 20 ETF; John Li, Chief International Business Officer, China Asset Management; Sanjiv Shah, Executive Director, Benchmark Asset Management Company Pvt. The Workshop concluded with a presentation by Mark Thornton, Founder and CEO, Stress Free High Performance.
F. William Scholz, II Managing Director of Gabelli Asset Company was the Master of Ceremony and kept the audience entertained with his quick wit and humorous anecdotes. The 2006 Global ETF Awards® winners were based on over 300 votes cast from ETF industry professionals’ worldwide and statistical data provided by Morgan Stanley.
Some of the winners were Powershares for the Greatest Overall Contribution in the ETF Industry for the Americas. Barclays Global Investors was the winner for Greatest Overall Contribution in the ETF Industry for the International Market. The Meritorious Service to the ETF Industry Award was awarded to Deborah Fuhr, Executive Director, Investment Strategies, Morgan Stanley. FXE-Rydex Eurocurrency won The Most Innovative ETF Award for the Americas and Oil Securities (OILB) won for Europe.
