Providence, RI (PRWEB) May 10, 2006
The Glimpse Foundation has launched its first-ever online raffle as part of its campaign to internationalize college campuses and help send more students abroad. Glimpse’s Summer 2006 “Go Away” Raffle will award one lucky winner a $250 travel voucher, courtesy of STA Travel. Participants who successfully refer 10 or more friends will also receive a free Rough Guides world music CD.
Participants can purchase tickets online and also refer friends to help increase their odds. A winner will be chosen at random on June 15, 2006. All proceeds will support the 501(c)3 Glimpse Foundation’s efforts to encourage overseas study and maximize the study abroad experience.
In the months since the U.S. Senate dubbed 2006 “The Year of Study Abroad,” Glimpse has emerged at the forefront of innovative initiatives in the field of international education. In pursuit of its mission to promote cross-cultural understanding and exchange by providing print and electronic forums for sharing the experiences of young adults living and studying abroad, Glimpse publishes a website (http://www.glimpseabroad.org) and a print magazine (Glimpse Quarterly), which feature first-person narratives written by study abroad students and international volunteers.
Says Dr. Jane Edwards, Director of International Programs at Harvard University, Glimpse Quarterly is “in my view, the best publication dedicated to student experience abroad.” Glimpse Quarterly is primarily distributed through colleges and universities across the country, with a current circulation of 15,000 with a projected readership of 20,000. It is also available in bookstores nationwide.
GlimpseAbroad.org, a gathering space for study abroad students and other young travelers, offers a database of over 550 articles from almost 100 countries, as well as “Ask the Expert” peer-to-peer communication features, a growing library of blog posts and a PDF guide series about living and studying abroad. The series addresses such topics as Culture Shock, Language Learning and American Identity Abroad, and is built on anecdotes, statistics and advice culled from hundreds of survey responses from study abroad students across the country.
The Glimpse Foundation was established by Brown University students in November 2001 and began full-time production in May 2002, with generous seed funds from the National Geographic Society. Glimpse uses its growing youth network to innovate platforms for creative nonfiction, informed discourse and intercultural exchange.
