Silanis Technology, the industry's most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million government and commercial users, today announced that it will provide a web seminar on the role of PKI and electronic signatures in eGovernment. The seminar will address the longstanding debate between the definitions of an electronic signature and digital signature.

Montreal, QC (PRWEB) May 11, 2006 -- Silanis Technology, the industry's most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million government and commercial users, today announced that it will provide a web seminar on the role of PKI and electronic signatures in eGovernment. The seminar will address the longstanding debate between the definitions of an electronic signature and digital signature.

"Digital signature technology won't allow people to duplicate a paper-based signing act on-line. Only electronic signatures do," says Chief Executive Officer, Richard Warren. "Six years after eSign has passed, there's still a lot of confusion in the market regarding these two technologies.

Secure, public key-enabled, electronic signatures are a recognized and necessary component of any eGovernment initiative. Without this capability, both internal and web based business processes will only be partially automated and will still be burdened by the inconvenience of printing to paper whenever a signature is required.

But making sense of this complex subject can be a challenge. Terms such as 'Public Key Infrastructure,' 'Digital Signatures,' 'Electronic Signatures,' and 'Digital Certificates' are often used interchangeably creating confusion or leading to misconceptions. Understanding the differences and dependencies between these technologies is the first step towards a successful eGovernment strategy and is the goal of this web seminar.

The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, May 18 at 11 p.m. EST. Registration is required in order to attend: http://www.silanis.com/site/corporate/seminars.php?id=406. This subject is discussed in more detail in Silanis' whitepaper which can beaccessed by visiting Silanis' electronic signature resource center located at:
