(PRWEB) May 11, 2006 -- John E. Griggs, a Realtor in Northern Virginia, held his annual Cinco de Mayo party for clients and friends.
“I hold two parties every year to celebrate my international heritage. One is for Cinco de Mayo for my Mexican heritage and the other is Mardi Gras for my French/Cajun heritage,” says John. “Besides my sisters, I only know of a couple of people who are from French-Mexican heritage. One happens to be Jessica Alba, the movie star. The other person, Ricky, recently bought a house with me and we celebrated at the Border Café. A restaurant that serves both Mexican and Cajun food. We both think the place is great,” comments John.
Some might say it is ironic for John to pick the Cinco de Mayo festival since this marks the Battle of Puebla in which the Mexicans won a historic victory against Napoleon’s French troops. “My Mexican Mother, Gloria Cecilia Hernandez, did seem to enjoy making this point every year to my Father,” says John. However, he picked Cinco de Mayo because Americans enjoy this Mexican festival the most. “We have such a good time eating Mexican food and listening to Mexican music. I try to keep everything as authentic as possible. I personally make the enchiladas and the guacamole just like my Mother.”
John also promoted Hispanic Against Child Abuse and Neglect (HACAN) during the party. “I really support HACAN’s cause. They provide great activities for young Latino girls in Northern Virginia. They also provide parenting classes that stress positive discipline techniques. HACAN is a non-profit organization that does so much for the community with little notice, “comments John. You can learn more about HACAN at their website HACAN.org.
