Kognitio, a leading provider of solutions to business problems that require acquisition, rationalisation and analysis of both large and complex data, has recently completed a highly successful Proof of Value exercise for an International Analytics and Marketing Services company using Kognitio WX2 analytical database software. The exercise, completed in the USA, set out to demonstrate WX2’s ease of use, flexibility, linear scalability, and high performance, whilst also illustrating the low cost of ownership of the solution. From the clients’ perspective WX2, which uses Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture, delivered on all counts.
A key early achievement was the completion of the loading of 2TB of highly granular retail data onto the 48 HP Proliant blade platform running WX2 within 24 hours of the hardware arriving on site. Whilst the high performance vis-à-vis proprietary hardware application solutions was a given, the ability to implement the solution quickly meant that the client data could be explored and queried within a matter of hours rather than weeks associated with other solutions. Little effort was required when fitting the data into a predetermined structure and this ‘load & go’ capability was highly valued.
The client organisation was so impressed by this and by the subsequent high performance and ease of use that they now plan to make Kognitio WX2 their analytic data warehouse of choice. It will be deployed worldwide in data centre hubs and on-site client data marts to create maximum competitive advantage for them and their enterprise clients.
Technically, the exercise used:
·HP Proliant X86 blade servers, each with 16GB RAM and 144Gb Disk capacity;
·Redhat Linux operating system;
·Kognitio WX2 analytical database software
In this environment complex queries were typically being completed in 5 to 10 seconds. The simplicity of the solution and the associated performance soon led to the customer thinking about new exciting business development opportunities beyond the existing base and into analysis areas previously thought to be too big or complex to achieve.
“In the Data Analytics arena the availability of cost effective, highly performant, robust and flexible solutions are a key differentiator, especially when the solution uses standard hardware environments,” commented Paul Mitchinson, director of business development, Kognitio. “In this exercise, Kognitio’s WX2 database software amply demonstrated its ability to deliver unmatched performance on industry standard servers.”
