Lansing, MI (PRWEB) May 12, 2006 -- The Michigan Historical Museum and the Lansing Principal Shopping District today announced Helen Thomas is scheduled to attend the Michigan Walk of Fame Celebration on May 25, 2006 at the Michigan Historical Center, 702 W. Kalamazoo St. in downtown Lansing. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and honors the first twelve inductees to the Michigan Walk of Fame.

The Michigan Walk of Fame Celebration event will take place in the Michigan Historical Museum, where attendees can enjoy food, beverages, and live entertainment as they wander through three levels of exhibits. Throughout the evening, the twelve 2006 inductees will be individually recognized. Ms. Thomas is the sole inductee able to attend the event.

“Helen Thomas is globally recognized for her broad portfolio of work and she continues to contribute to our state’s well-being,” said Kevin Green, Executive Director of the Lansing Principal Shopping District. “Ms. Thomas sets a high standard for future Michigan Walk of Fame inductees and we are thrilled she is able to join us for our first celebration.”

Representing the state’s civic and talent-rich heritage, the 2006 inductees are only a start to the Michigan Walk of Fame. Each will be honored with an 18” x 30” bronze plaque embedded in the sidewalks of downtown Lansing, the state’s capital city. Each plaque features a star containing the inductee’s name and a description of his or her achievements. Nominations for the 2007 inductees are currently being accepted online at www.michiganwalkoffame.com.

The Michigan Walk of Fame is a strategic partnership between the Michigan Historical Museum, the Lansing Principal Shopping District (PSD), and the City of Lansing. The walk is funded through individual and corporate sponsorships. Downtown Lansing Inc., the PSD’s 501(c)3 agency, is coordinating the project’s fund-raising efforts. The Michigan Walk of Fame requires no public funding. Individual contributions may be made to the Michigan Walk of Fame at www.michiganwalkoffame.com.
