Cari Gelber Releases First Young Adult Novel

Young music industry exec’s “Rising Star” fictional but based on real life experience.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2006 -- Cari Gelber, a 26-year-old music industry executive for almost ten years, already has a lifetime of stories to tell about her experiences. Most of them center on Cincinnati rock band Oval Opus, as well as her involvement with Everfine Records and Decent Xposure, the latter a company she co-founded.

Gelber’s latest project is a teen novel called “Rising Star,” based loosely on her own experiences and geared toward the teen market. The book is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, and more information can be found at the Rising Star webpage (www.risingstarthebook.com) or Myspace page (www.myspace.com/risingstarthebook).

Being a young woman in a male-dominated industry, Gelber felt she had a story to tell about the scenarios she has encountered. “Rising Star” is a brisk, entertaining and informative book that Gelber hopes will inspire other young women.

“After keeping a journal for a few years about my life in the industry, I decided I had enough material to turn it into a book,” she says. “After writing a first draft two years ago, I realized that it would be better if it was aimed at teens. So I changed all of the characters, made them younger, and put a little pop culture into it.” She also enlisted the help of an authentic male voice, bassist Patrick Martin of Oval Opus. Gelber is currently working on the sequel to the book.

Gelber is employing a grassroots method to get her new book out to the masses, similar to the way she has promoted bands, targeting teen websites, message boards, blogs, high schools and teen librarians to help spread the word.

About the Book
Most teens love music and celebrities, but seventeen year-old New Yorker Nikki Bellinger is not satisfied with just dreaming about them. She wants more than just her humdrum high school classes and modest school newspaper column, and she wants it now. With determination, cleverness, and a bit of luck, Nikki evolves from a typical student into a serious entrepreneur and music business industry phenomenon as she represents the pop rock band Long Story Short from its anonymous days to its stardom.

But, Nikki has some choices to make. Will she put a personal relationship with a sexy band member ahead of her professional dreams? Should high school class work take second priority to her career goals? Will she let some of the recording industries’ top moguls take advantage of her youth, inexperience, and femaleness? From Long Story Short’s escapades on the road to Nikki’s struggle being a young female in the music business, “Rising Star” takes a realistic look at almost every teenager’s fantasy of touring with a rock band.

About the Author

She also was selected as the Inside Sessions Winner, the prize of which was to spend a week in Los Angeles shadowing the staff of Interscope Records.
