Standard Concrete Products to Build Facility in Mobile, Alabama -- 200 Jobs

Standard Concrete Products Inc., a manufacturer of structural concrete products, announced today it will build a $20 million facility in south Mobile County, employing more than 200 workers at full production.

Mobile, AL (PRWEB) May 13, 2006 -- Standard Concrete Products Inc., a manufacturer of structural concrete products, announced today it will build a $20 million facility in south Mobile County, employing more than 200 workers at full production.

The company, headquartered in Columbus, Ga., has facilities in Tampa, Fla., Savannah, Ga., and Atlanta. The Mobile facility will be one of their largest, and is expected to be fully-operational by March 2007, with initial production to begin later this year.

Mason H. Lampton, president, with Standard Concrete Products said Mobile was a natural selection for their operations, adding the company had been looking for a Gulf Coast location since mid-2005. Hurricane Katrina sped up the company’s timeline, however, as the demand for pre-cast concrete has been growing faster than current supply.

“Due to the ever-growing needs for concrete products, the Mobile plant will hit full-production from the start,” said Fred J. Dodelin, executive vice president. “There’s plenty of work.”

The property is located on 50 acres at the west end of the Theodore (Ala.) Barge Canal. It is just north of the Degussa Corp. Mobile plant and Mitsubishi Polysilicon’s Mobile operation. Standard Concrete has purchased the property from the Alabama State Port Authority, and the Mobile County Commission is assisting with road access to the property.

“The Mobile County Commission welcomes Standard Concrete into our community. The company will provide good-paying jobs in south Mobile County, and will be an asset to the county and state as we move forward with road and bridge projects,” said Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean, whose district is where the plant will be located.

“Standard Concrete will be great asset to our community,” said James K. Lyons, president and CEO of the Alabama State Port Authority. “This company brings a much needed source of building materials vital to regional public and private construction and transportation infrastructure projects.”

“This is a great project for Mobile,” believes Bill Sisson, vice president of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce’s economic development department, which oversaw the company’s entrée into the Mobile market. “There’s been great cooperation with our economic recruiting partners, most notably the Mobile County Commission, and we’re so pleased with the number of good paying jobs this highly-respected company will bring here.”

For its hiring and training, the company will be use Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT), whose mission is to provide quality workforce development and training for Alabama's new and existing industries at no charge.
