Independent Publisher Book Awards Celebrates Their Tenth Anniversary
The anniversary brings the announcement of 2006 Category Winners and for the first time, the Ten Outstanding Women in Independent Publishing.
Traverse City, MI (PRWEB) May 15, 2006 -- The 10th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, conducted to honor the year's best independently published titles, has announced the results for the 2006 competition. Awards are given to winners and finalists in sixty categories as well as to winners in ten North American regions for both fiction and non-fiction titles. For the first time ever, the awards are also recognizing the ten outstanding women in independent publishing. The formal awards ceremony will take place at the 10th Annual IPPY Awards event on Friday May 19th, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.

For ten years the “IPPY” Awards have brought increased recognition to independent, university, and self-published titles. Launched in 1996 as the first unaffiliated awards program open exclusively to independents, over 1,350 books have received an IPPY and the publicity, credibility, and increased sales that a book award can bring.
The IPPY’s reward those who exhibit the courage, innovation, and creativity to bring about change in the world of publishing. Independent spirit and expertise comes from publishers of all sizes and budgets, and books are judged with that in mind.
The awards also name ten Outstanding Books of the Year. These titles take chances and break new ground with their work. One book in each of the ten categories, such as Most Original Concept and Most Likely to Save the Planet will receive a special award and recognition.
A special presentation will be made to the Ten Outstanding Women in Publishing as part of the annual book awards ceremony. These awards recognize both the achievements of award-winning independent authors and publishers, and the valuable contributions made by women within the industry.

The 10th Annual IPPY Awards celebration, The Declaration of Independents: a Celebration of Excellence in Independent Publishing is from 6:30pm until 11:30pm on Friday, May 19th, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.
