American World Pictures Announces Diverse Distribution Slate At Cannes Film Festival 2006

Teen comedies, horror flicks and thrillers feature top talent including Taryn Manning, Armand Assante and Jason Connery among others.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2006 -- Leading producer and distributor American World Pictures has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to an assortment of films, many which will debut at this years Cannes Film Festival, it was announced by Mark L. Lester, founder and President of American World Pictures and Dana Dubovsky, President of Production for the company.

American World Pictures first hits the French Riviera with “Surf School,” a raucous teen comedy about a rag-tag bunch of seniors, complete outsiders at their surf-crazed Laguna Beach High School, who decide to crash the biggest team surf contest. Harland Williams (“Dumb and Dumber,” “The Whole Nine Yards”), Ryan Carnes (“General Hospital,” “Desperate Housewives”), and Corey Sevier (“CSI: Miami,” “Tommy Boy”) star in the film. Joel Silverman (“Death to the Supermodels,” “Full Court Miracle”) served as director, writer, and one of the producers for the feature, which will have a nationwide theatrical release June 2nd.
The company has also secured the worldwide distribution rights for several new Sci-Fi thrillers including “Cult” which stars Taryn Manning (“Hustle & Flow”) and Rachel Miner (“Guiding Light,” “CSI”) as college students who uncover the existence of a supernatural power that may take their lives…and their souls. “Cult” was written and directed by Joe Knee (of the short films “Knock, Knock…Who’s There?”, “The Last Leaf”).
“Night Skies” which stars Jason Connery (“Robin Hood,” “The Wild”; son of Sean Connery) and A.J. Cook (“Final Destination 2,” “The Virgin Suicides”) in a true story of a group of travelers who were witness to one of the largest UFO sightings ever recorded. Roy Knyrim (“Cemetary Gates,” “Demons at the Door”) directed the feature.

For those buyers looking for horror films, American World Pictures offers “Horror House” featuring Elizabeth Daily (“Rugrats,” “Scarface”) in the thrilling story of six college men who go to a whore house expecting a good time– but what they find waiting for them may cost them their lives, and “Drive-Thru,” a horror film starring Leighton Meester (“24,” “Surface”) and Nick D’Agosto (“Election,” “Psycho Beach Party”). Mackenzie Carpenter’s classmates start dying of massive blood loss and it isn’t until Mac discovers her unbelievable connection to the killer and his victims that she realizes she must confront him face to face.
Rounding out the American World Pictures distribution slate is the thriller “Surveillance” which stars Armand Assante (“ER,” “Striptease”) as an obsessive department store security guard whose perfect crime prevention record masks a horrifying reality of blackmail, torture and murder and “River’s End,” a family adventure starring Sam Huntington (“Superman Returns”) as a troubled teenager who must navigate a perilous 60-mile stretch of river, or go to jail.
