Adamed Inc. Introduces Colpexin Sphere for Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Surveillance studies confirm that pelvic organ prolapse and weak pelvic floor muscles are common conditions among women in the US. These conditions often result in urinary incontinence and other troublesome symptoms. Adamed Inc. has launched a new product, the Colpexin Sphere, to provide these women with a conservative medical alternative to surgery or traditional management. The Colpexin Sphere is available only by precription and will be marketed to healthcare professionals who specialize in female health.

Rutherford, NJ (PRWEB) May 22, 2006 -- Colpexin Sphere, an innovative intra-vaginal device for the medical management of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and weak pelvic floor muscles, is now available in the U. S. according to Adamed Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Adamed Ltd. based in Warsaw, Poland.

As the baby-boom female population ages, POP is expected to intensify, particularly among women who have borne children. An embarrassing and distressing sequela of POP is stress urinary incontinence that leads many women to seek surgical repair. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, approximately 400,000 surgical procedures are performed annually for POP or stress urinary incontinence. The availability of Colpexin Sphere now provides women with POP an option to surgery as well as to some of the older therapies, such as vaginal pessaries, that are sometimes difficult to fit and to remove.

Developed in Europe over a ten-year period and clinically tested in the US at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, and the Urogynecology Associates of Colorado, the Colpexin Sphere has been shown to reduce POP when placed above the levator ani muscle. In addition, the device helps strengthen pelvic floor musculature when used in conjunction with regularly performed pelvic floor muscle exercises.
According to Dr. G. Willy Davila, Chairman, Department of Gynecology, Cleveland Clinic Florida, “the Colpexin Sphere has been shown in clinical trials to be an effective and safe therapeutic choice for women with pelvic organ prolapse.”

Fitting patients for the Colpexin Sphere is simplified by the availability of a Colpexin Fitting and Sizing Tool Kit. Each fitting tool corresponds with sphere diameters to aid in the fitting process. The Colpexin Sphere is available in five sizes ranging in diameter from 32 mm to 44 mm with the most common sizes being 36mm and 39mm. The manufacturer provides healthcare professionals with educational materials to help instruct patients on proper use.
