Class is in Session for SPF 7's School of Improv
After years of touring and providing enjoyment for audiences across the North American continent, internationally touring improv troupe SPF 7 is opening the doors on its own school of improv in San Francisco.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2006 -- SPF 7, in association with the San Francisco Comedy College, is excited to open the doors on the SPF 7 School of Improv. By blending their trademark emphasis on storytelling and strong scene work with the essentials of comedic theory and performance technique, the SPF 7 School of Improv offers a unique perspective on improv for performers at all levels that you won’t find anywhere else.
Whether you have a future of performing in front of you, or just want to be a little more suave at the bar, you’ll find what you’re looking for in the School of Improv. Currently, the SPF 7 School of Improv is offering four core classes, in addition to regular weekend intensives that range from Improvising in Stand-Up Comedy to Basic Commedia dell’Arte. Below is a breakdown of the current core curriculum:
- The Skills
The starting point, where you’ll learn the fundamentals of improvisation, and feel more spontaneous and creative onstage and off!
Wednesday Nights: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Prerequisite: No improv or acting experience necessary.
Taught by Sammy Wegent
- The Shorts
You’ve learned the basics- now push yourself ahead by tackling shortform improv - the games made famous by Whose Line Is It Anyway. The Shorts focuses on strengthening your scene work while applying it to a fun and fast paced improv structure.
Tuesday Nights: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Prerequisite: The Skills, or some beginning improv experience.
Taught by Jay Starr
- The Shark
This class covers the style of comedic longform improv that was made famous in Chicago, and is one of the most popular and rewarding types of improv you’ll ever attempt.

Taught by Sammy Wegent
- The Story
The storytelling formula made popular by Joseph Campbell’s The Hero With A Thousand Faces is utilized by writers across the board, from Dan Brown to George Lucas, to those guys that wrote Toy Story.
