Stella Jones Gallery and David Driskell to Celebrate 'Art from the Heart'
The 10th Anniversary of Stella Jones Gallery, the 75th Birthday of Dr. David Driskell and his exhibition opening will celebrate “Art from the Heart,” an art auction to support New Orleans artists, June 9-11. Art from national and local artists will be auctioned. The weekend will also include a Katrina bus ride on Saturday and brunch on Sunday by Leah Chase to support the rebuilding of Dooky Chase Restaurant.
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) May 23, 2006 -- The 10th Anniversary of Stella Jones Gallery, the 75th Birthday of Dr. David Driskell and his exhibition opening will celebrate “Art from the Heart,” an art auction to support New Orleans artists, June 9-11. Art by prominent African American artists will be auctioned, including works by Elizabeth Catlett, Benny Andrews, Samella Lewis, Ron Bechet, Louis Delsarte, Wadsworth Jarrell, Anita Philyaw, Chris McNair, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Richard Yarde and many more. These funds will be administered by Arts Council of New Orleans
Even though, artists from around the country stand firmly together to offer support in an unprecedented art auction, New Orleans needs your help to restore a sense of normalcy to the lives of our artists so that they can return to the creation of art that is vital to the restoration of New Orleans. Images in newspapers and television can never tell the full story; it will take a long time to return the city and its people to the glory of yesterday. However, each new day offers an opportunity for these artists to collect the pieces from a past life and start anew.
In New Orleans, we are keenly aware of what is necessary to truly care for our fellow man. The tragedy of Hurricane Katrina has often turned into heroism, touching each human spirit and amplifying the good that is within each of us. When you join us, your life, too, will be changed forever.
The weekend will also include a Katrina bus ride which focuses on the lingering wide spread devastation across our communities. A Sunday brunch will be prepared by Chef Leah Chase with proceeds assisting in the rebuilding of world famous Dooky Chase Restaurant. Be part of “Art from the Heart” and help support the rebirth of the art community in New Orleans.
