Twinsburg, Ohio (PRWEB) May 22, 2006
In the midst of an ever-changing community is a place where people can seek to discover God’s purpose for their lives in a culturally diverse environment, free from tension. Destiny Church was established in 2004 by Pastors Calvin Lamar Brown and Bob Ross who have been friends since third grade. They, along with a team of other people, launched this new church with the vision of forming a multicultural, intergenerational community of people seeking to fulfill God's destiny for their lives through a living, vital relationship with Jesus Christ. Today, over 300 people are a part of this community.
During the time of Destiny’s creation, Twinsburg, Ohio was plagued by cultural tension that existed within the community. In the middle of such a tremulous period where some minorities felt as if they did not have a sense of belonging within the community, Destiny Church reached out. By forming a church with the intention of bringing all races with diverse backgrounds together, they were able to hit this issue head on.
“What makes Destiny Church unique is that it was created for people of all backgrounds. As we model unity by doing life together, we become enriched and other people will be impacted,” says Pastor Calvin Brown. This message is also reinforced in an excerpt of Destiny Church’s vision—“We strive to be a place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and races discover, embrace, and fulfill God’s destiny for their lives.”
The way that Destiny has embraced each person’s diverse make-up is by implementing a set of values that encourages each to discover and express their God-given SHAPE:
By using this acronym, Destiny is able to help each person understand how their unique skills, abilities, and talents are able to be used to fulfill God’s plan for them. In addition, people are able to see how they fit into the community and make a difference in the world in which they live and participate.
“We don’t believe that God is bothered by different styles of worship from our cultural diverse body, as long as it is done in spirit and truth,” says Pastor Bob Ross.
Changing the community and the world around them is surrounded by the theme of Evangelism. Becoming involved locally, nationally, and internationally, through: prayer, serving, giving, sending (missionaries, church planting), and going (short-term and/or career missions) is what makes Destiny Church’s ability to be culturally diverse so effective at sharing the Gospel.
Destiny Church continues to grow rapidly because of its unique view point on the culturally diverse community where this church was planted. Destiny Church stands firm to this day because, “we believe God has a purpose and plan for every single human being.”
