Miracle Boy Survives Horrifying Dog Attack

After a boy miraculously survives a horrible dog attack author/mom learns how little education is provided to children. Lisa LeLeu wants to share her son Ben's story in hopes to encourage parents and dog owners to use more caution. Her educational Web site and story book were created to help make the lessons fun for children and easy for parents.

Doylestown, PA (PRWEB) May 24, 2006 -- Dog Bite Prevention Week May 21th - 27th

After author Lisa LeLeu's son miraculously survived and healed from a horrifying dog attack, she made it her mission to find a way to help educate children and parents about dog safety.

When author Lisa LeLeu learned how serious the dog bite epidemic is and that schools do not provide education on dog safety for kids, she created an educational Web site with a story book that makes the lessons FUN and not scary for children. She wants children to learn to “GET DOG SMART” so that they can be more cautious, feeling confident and safe around dogs. It’s up to parents to take on the responsibility to teach their children dog safety just as they teach their children to stay away from strangers.

Lisa LeLeu would like to invite parents and children to this new educational Web site - www.GetDogSmart.com The site includes a full color story book inspired by her son’s story told by Diggity the Dog. In this story, Diggity takes children on a walk through the neighborhood. Along the way, they encounter a whole lot of dogs in different situations. Diggity tells them the "do's" and "don'ts" -- right from the doggie's mouth. The story can be read on-line or can be printed. There are also FUN educational games children will love. Diggity’s story is also available as a FREE coloring book included with Diggity the Dog’s Puppet Show Book which is available at http://www.PuppetShowBooks.com. This book makes a great children’s gift and is also a great reward for a child who has successfully learned all the rules about dog safety.

In light of Dog Bite Prevention Week, Lisa LeLeu shares her son Benjamin's story and photos with parents in hopes to save a child’s beautiful face from permanent scars and a horrible trauma or even save a child’s life. The photos of Benjamin are shocking but eye opening. Lisa LeLeu's hope is that by sharing these photos, it will help make us all more careful. Here is the link: http://www.dogbites.zoomshare.com

It is important for Parents to make Dog Bite Prevention week a time to educate themselves and their children and make the lessons fun, easy and memorable! Especially since dog bites increase during the summer months while children are playing more outdoors.

Many adults need to learn dog safety tips too. Did you know that you should never run from a dog? Many people don’t know this. You should stand still like a tree and do not look into the dogs eyes.

It is also important for dog owners to educate themselves so that when children visit their homes, they are prepared. The typical response of a dog owner whose dog did bite is “I didn’t think my dog would ever do that.” Dogs can easily get spooked around children, so it’s worth spending the time to learn the facts and take precautions. Dogs are animals and in the wrong situation they all bite.

GetDogSmart.com provides fun educational tools to teach children, parents and dog owners on dog bite prevention.

Important Statistics:
Statistics say that every year, dogs bite 4.7 million Americans and 60 percent of those affected are children, with the most severe injuries occurring in children younger than 10 years old (Ben was 9), which adds up to potentially 2.8 million scars on children each year from dog bites alone. Children seen in the emergency room for dog bites are more likely to have been bitten on the face, neck and head. In fact, children under 10 receive 65 percent of the reported dog bites to the face. Children are also 900 times as likely as letter carriers to be attacked by dogs.
