Dublin (PRWEB) May 26, 2006 -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c37510) has announced the addition of YM Biosciences Cancer Company Intelligence Report from Espicom Business Intelligence to their offering.
YM BioSciences (YM) is a cancer drug development company that was incorporated in 1994. On 7th February 2001, the company changed its name from York Medical Inc. YM does not conduct basic research; rather, the company's drug development portfolio is based on products licensed principally from academic centres of excellence internationally.
YM’s principal clinical emphasis is on metastatic breast cancer, advanced prostate cancer, unresectable head and neck cancer, specific types of brain tumours and early-stage prostate cancer. YM’s business model is to eventually co-develop or partner with pharmaceutical multi-nationals to manufacture and market its products and offset the cost of pivotal trials.
On 13th April 2006, YM entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Eximias Pharmaceutical Corporation of Berwyn, PA, a privately-held pharmaceutical company engaged in the acquisition, development and commercialisation of products for the treatment of cancer and cancer-related disorders. Following completion of the transaction on 9th May, Eximias has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of YM operating as YM BioSciences USA Inc and serves as YM's base of operations in the US. The acquisition is designed to amplify YM's critical mass, specifically in its management team and cash resources. It allows YM to expand capabilities for the development and commercialisation of the products currently in clinical development and to establish a presence in the US, particularly within the oncology and financial communities. There is no intention to further develop the products in the Eximias portfolio at this time, namely Thymitaq and Orataq.
